PTDC will open offices in London, NYC: Rais Munir
ISLAMABAD: Tourism in Pakistan has still not recovered from the events of September 11 and in order to revive the industry, the PTDC has decided it will open up offices in London, New York, Dubai, Riyadh, Beijing and Berlin, said Minister of State for Sports, Culture, Tourism, Youth and Minorities Affairs, Rais Munir Ahmed, on Saturday.
He said that the government would try its best to provide facilities of international standards to foreign tourists in hotels and motels. The Minister expressed these views while chairing a meeting of the Board of Directors of PTDC. Efforts are being made to improve international and domestic tourism in the country, he added. He said the government was in the process of exploring new markets to promote tourism at the international level.
He said PTDC is operating 18 tourist information centres in all major cities in the country, and this facility will also be extended abroad. A feasibility report is being prepared to establish PTDC information officers in various cities. It was also decided in the meeting to appoint honorary PTDC representatives abroad to introduce Pakistani culture. Syed Jalil Abbas, Federal Secretary, Malik Habibur Rehman, Managing Director, PTDC, Chief Secretary, AJK and Provincial Secretaries of Tourism were also present at the meeting. nni
