US investors plan $200 million trade complex at Port Qasim
ISLAMABAD (May 14 2004): In a bid to boost business and image of Pakistan, the US investors have planed to build a $200 million International Trade and Exposition Complex at Port Qasim.
The project is likely to be completed by December 2007. The mega project, which was originally designed by Mitsubishi Research Institute, Japan, and architectured by New Jersey Architects will be the largest private sector construction project to date in Pakistan and will encompass a wide range of services based on the development philosophy of Port Authority of New York.
The project will enable Karachi to host big international congress and trade fairs, providing a platform for renewal of large-scale economic activity.
While bringing a dimension to the Port Qasim itself, the Expo City Complex will house a convention center for 3,000 guests, exhibition and business areas of 3 million square feet, car park for 8,000 vehicles, a hotel, recreation center and a large teleport.
The $200 million facility is being implemented as a member of the New York-based World Trade Centre Association and the World Teleport Association in a joint venture with the local Pakistani company, which has holdings in a number of large businesses in the country.
