Crafts village planned at Lahore

SIALKOT (September 20 2004): Punjab government is actively considering establishing 'Crafts Village' of an international standard at the provincial headquarter in the near future.
Official sources told Business Recorder here on Sunday that the step was being taken for providing opportunities to the craftspersons to market their products.
Punjab Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the Tourism Department would take appropriate steps for attracting the tourists to visit the proposed crafts village. The main purpose of setting up this village was not only to introduce the crafts produced by the artisans but also to improve their economic condition, sources added.
The present regime had focused its special attention on improving the economic conditions of artisans both male and female aimed at providing strong footing enabling them to earn their livelihood in a respectable way in the province. The products being prepared by rural folk would also be placed in this proposed village, sources added.
