There are reports of super bumper cotton harvest expected this year.
Last year our cotton production stood at approximately 10 million bales, less then the forecasted target. The bad crop was due to pest attacks and adultered pesticide drugs which were used to spray on the crop.
This year the target for crop was put at 10.7 million bales and it is expected that the crop will surpass the target and estimated crop size is around 12 million bales. With less then two weeks to go for total harvesting and no major reports of pesticides attack in view of strict check on the pesticides this target might be achieved.
This will be first year that we will achieve the target of this size after 1991-92 crop.
Last year we achieved the target of 6.4% growth in GDP although our agriculture growth was less then forecasted. If we are able to post a good growth this year hopefully we will cross 7% growth target.
