Industrial items of the large manufacturing industry registered an impressive growth of 16.41 percent during July-April of the current financial year, a senior government official told Daily Times.
The large-scale manufacturing, which include 39 items the growth target of which is 12 percent for 2004-05, and the growth of over 16 percent in first ten months do indicate that the growth target will be surpassed, the official added.
The production of cars/jeeps grew by 26.07 percent during July-April of the current financial year and the total production stood at 101,334 compared to 80,380 cars manufactured in the same period of 2003-04.
The car manufacturing individually increased by 25.81 percent and stood at 100,213 from 79,655 in the first ten months of the last fiscal year. Jeeps’ production increased to 1,121 in the first ten months of the current fiscal from 725 in the same period of the last fiscal, which is an increase by 54.62 percent.
The production of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) increased by 59.24 percent and stood at 17,338 from 10,888 in the July-April period of 2003-04. The production of trucks rose by 19.77 percent and the number of trucks manufactured in the first ten months of this fiscal stood at 1,999 compared to 1,669 in the same period of the last fiscal.
Showing an increase of 30.58 percent, the number of buses manufactured in July-April this fiscal stood at 1,503 from 1,151 in the same period of the last fiscal. In the manufacturing of tractors, the industry concerned increased its production by 23.53 percent to 35,308 in the first ten months of this fiscal from 28,583 in the same period of the last fiscal.
Motorcycles’ manufacturing grew by 46.91 percent and the total number of motorcycles stood at 386,589 in the review period of this fiscal year against 263,149 in the same period of the last fiscal.
The production of cotton yarn stood at 1,901,482 thousand kilograms in the first ten months of this fiscal which is 18.33 percent over the last year’s production of 1,606,992 thousand kilograms. The production of cotton cloth (mill sector) increased by 33.55 percent and it stood at 741,391 thousand meters compared to 555,140 thousand meters in the first ten months of the last fiscal.
The fertilizer production increased by 5.12 percent in the first ten months of this fiscal and stood at 4,928,016 metric tonnes against 4,688,099 metric tonnes in the same period of the last fiscal.
According to official data, the production of sugar has declined by 24.30 percent to 3,022,518 metric tonnes in the first ten months of the current fiscal from 3,993,011 metric tonnes sugar production during the same period of the last fiscal.
The production of bicycles also dropped during July April of this fiscal by 18.90 percent to 453,430 (numbers) from 559,094 in the same period of the last fiscal year. The production of cast rolled billet one of the major items of iron and steel also declined by 18.93 percent and the production stood at 296,450 metric tonnes in first ten months of this fiscal against 365,668 metric tonnes in the same period of the last fiscal.
The production of Glav products also decreased by 1.97 percent and stood at 35,109 metric tonnes against 35,814 metric tonnes in the first ten months of 2003-04. However, overall the production of iron and steel product made a meager increase of 0.99 percent and stood at 1,916,279 metric tonnes from 1,897,455 tonnes in the first ten months of the last financial year.
The growth in cement production is 16.19 percent, motor tyres 16.30 percent, motor tubes 3.44, glass sheets 7.59 percent, paper and board 3.48 percent, jute goods 0.01 percent while the growth in soda ash is 4.28 percent in the first ten months of the current financial year.
