Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) - 05/06/2005

KUWAIT, June 5 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Al-Shuaiba Paper Products Company (SPPC) started operation of its new Nishat Shuaiba factory in Pakistan with a production capacity of 70 million paper bags a year, a company official said Sunday.

As part of its expansion plan, SPPC has established two factories one in Pakistan and one in Saudi Arabia (Al-Yanbu Cement), owning stakes up to 30 percent and 40 percent respectively in these factories, deputy director of the company Walid Al-Ghunaiman told KUNA.

The Kuwaiti company is in charge of the technical and operational aspects of running the two factories, he said.

Pakistan has an attractive investment market in the paper and cement bags industries, which is what pushed SPPC to establish the Nishat Shuaiba paper products company in Pakistan.

Due to growing demand on cement bags in that region Nishat Shuaiba in Pakistan started to draw plans to expand production capacity in the near future, Al-Ghunaiman said.

Over the past 29 years, SPPC have made tangible accomplishments locally, regionally and internationally where the company's products have reached the US, Australia, Europe, east Asia and the Middle East, he said.

Shuaiba Paper Products Co. is a subsidiary of Al-Ahlia Investment Co., with a capital exceeding two million Kuwaiti dinars. Its initial aim was to meet the persisting demand of the domestic, as well as the international cement packing fields; its operations have expanded to include the production of other types of paper bags.

Its current production capacity is 170 tons of bags per year. (end) asf.
