The military officers are moved around all over the country, where do you expect them to live? for this reason the government gives them house rent allowance so when they are posted to a new location, they can rent a house for themselves and their family.

The highest allowance there is Rs. 9,020 and that is FOR A GENERAL!! someone who has dedicated their entire life to the country.

A new MBA, or doctor, or engineer is on the level of a Captain or Major.... they get Rs. 4,210. Now Im not sure where you come from, but in Karachi a doctor or engineer or evenan MBA get a lot more than Rs. 4,210 a month

You are incorrect.

I am renting out my property in Haydari Karachi for 12000/month. It’s a double story 5 BR house. It is considered an upper middle class area. Why does a military officer need $45000/month as rent allowance? Are they not getting paid enough to be able to afford rent? How about all the land given to the same individuals in all the DHA? Is that not enough? How about the Fouji fund which is now one of the biggest businesses in Pakistan? Is that not enough? Why does the rest of the population not get rent allowance? They manage to live within their means.

A new graduate doctor makes 12000/month in Agha Khan Medical center in Karachi. How do I know this you ask? My niece graduated last year and is working at the facility. An MBA can expect to earn from 12000-30000/month. An engineer can expect to earn 15000-35000/month. I know this because I did a feasibility study which included cost of labor to open a manufacturing/assembly plant in Karachi for a telecom company.
BoggedDown
It is typical of Paksitani journalist and news paper to mix apple with orange producing confusing piece of crap. Also it is typlical of Pakistani reader of being confused if not ignorant and do not even bother to use common sense to make sense out of news they read.

That is NOT rent money, its their salary! and i think this figure includes the rent in it along with salary and other benefits given to the personel.

The rent figures are: "cadets would get Rs3,213, Rs4,210, for majors, Rs6,417 for Lt-Col and colonel, Rs7,612 for brigadiers, Rs8,438 for major-generals and Rs9,025 for generals in 14 big cities. In other cities, their house rents would range between Rs2,142 and Rs6,017."

As you can see its not that much,

Looking at the rent money given to army personnel, even a general cannot afford to live at your house. the allowance for rent is given to army personnel because of the fact that they are moved around all over the country all the time; it is to help them pay for their accomodation.

And im think that figure of $45000 was a typo on your part? as for whether they are getting paid enough or not.... its one of the perks of being in the military. Some jobs give bonuses, some pay for accomodation and some give a company car.

The land is given to them WHEN THEY RETIRE!! its like a retirement gift, something thousands of companies do all over the world. This land they can either sell, or build a house on it. Do not know much about fauji fund

And i promise you that maybe not the rest of the population, but many thousands more atleast get rent expenses paid by companies that they work for. Just because the majority of pakistan doesnt get it, does it mean that civil servants or the military shouldnt either? the majority of pakistanis are farmers, with your theory why doesnt all of pakistan become farmers!?

Trust me, i have family in the military. They do not live livish lives, at best they live decent lives. Im talking about Major/Colonel level officers. Maybe higher up, the Generals maybe be living better lives, but then they are the heads of the armed forces, something like senoir directors at a business so ofcourse you would expect them to be paid well.

I do not know of any company which gives plots to its employees when they retire.  The retired officers I know of in PIA and WAPDA got 10-15 lakhs as golden hand shake.  These gentlemen were at the level of assistant director and director level.  The tye of gifts in DHA cost 100 lakh plus.  Let me know if you need info on faugi fund, it has business in almost every commercial market in Pakistan
And i promise you that maybe not the rest of the population, but many thousands more atleast get rent expenses paid by companies that they work for. They definately should be paid well but not better than a doctor/engineer/CA/MBA etc. Afterall no country in the world pays their military men better than their intelectuals. This happens in countries where the military does not have to answer to elected officials.

wiseking

actually armymen are given land once they attain a certain position, and they are given more and more land as they move up the ladder. its a strange reward system, one most pakistanis feel needs to be done away with. believe it or not, the pakistan army is the biggest land owner in pakistan. it has more land, for commercial and other purposes, than the damn landowners! our generals should learn to behave themselves. they have no right participating in the commercial activities in pakistan. its not right. someone needs to stop this. pakistan is too poor for generals to maintain their lifestyle by building golf courses on army land while people die on the streets of hunger.
