Britain to offer 248 mln pounds to Pakistan in next three years
KARACHI, June 11 (APP)- Britain will offer Pakistan 240 million pounds in the next three years.
This was stated by the British parliamentarian of Pakistani origin, Choudhry Muhammad Sarwar, in an interview with APP here.
He informed that the money would be dispersed through the DFID.
Sarwar who is on a visit to Pakistan said that the main focus is how the employment opportunities and educational facilities can be created here as well as improving the health services.
"We are also working in partnership with the local governments like that of Faisalabad and Peshwar in many projects", remarked Sarwar who has been re-elected as the British Parliament where there are now four MPs of Pakistani origin.
He said still there are many people in Pakistan who live in abject poverty, there are many who cannot buy clothes for their children or pay fees and books for their wards and there are some who cannot afford to pay for the medicines and medical treatment of their sons and daughters.
Sarwar was of the view that poverty and law and order are `huge challenges for Pakistan'.
"As a developed nation, we are doing our best to help developing countries to deal with issues of poverty", the MP from UK remarked.
He pointed out that Pakistan has been in the forefront to tackle the menace of international terrorism and the international community. European Union as well as the British government appreciate Pakistan's efforts in this very direction, he added.
Sarwar, however, pointed out that if they want to deal with terrorism they will have to deal with the root causes of this very menace.
"I genuinely and passionately believe that the terrorism war cannot be won without dealing with two important issues in our world which are global injustice and global poverty", he commented.
There are 1.2 billion people around the world who live in abject poverty with income of less than one dollar a day and this is a cause of concern for the developed nations to ensure how they can improve the quality of life in developing countries.
The UK Parliamentarian also called for finding the solution to the problems of Kashmir and Palestine.
Sarwar is also the Chairperson of Pakistan Foundation International whose aims and objectives are the promotion of education and health services in Pakistan and extending scholarships to poor but talented students for higher education. It also pays for the treatment of various diseases.
He said the organization is opening its first pilot project in Toba Tek Singh with the cost of Rs 50 million establishing a hospital which will provide health services to the poor people of the area from next month.
