US Gives Pakistan US$450 MLN Aid to Build Border Terminal
KARACHI, Aug 2 Asia Pulse - National Logistic Cell (NLC) has started work on US$2000 million project of construction of four Modern Border Terminals (MBTs) on international border to encourage the land route trade with neighbouring countries including India, Iran, Afghanistan and Central Asian States.

The US has offered Pakistan US$450 million in aid for the establishment of an MBT at Torkham for increasing land route trade with Afghanistan.

"These border terminals would be constructed at Wagah, Torkham, Chaman and Taftan and these terminals would be equipped all modern facilities for the business men both local and foreigners. These terminals would state of art terminals", said a statement on July 30.

Is there a more elaborate descriptioin of these? And 2000 US Dollars for just 4 Terminals? Or was that a typo?

Either ways, how would this really serve us better as far as closed borders and trade goes?

I think they are talking about customs terminals which have X-ray scanners, similar to ones installed between UAE & Saudia at Sila and even the road of Abu Dhabi & Dubai and that on Mina Zayed.

Although the internal ones are not very known by even residents of UAE but at Sila earlier for checking the contents of the truck they use to even cut open tanker bodies, etc. and then re-weld them ..

Majority of sumuggling is done in the body of the trucks what we call in our language "Dhala" .. I had even seen truck owners transporting AK-47 in knockdown kits in 12V batteries ! However, once these Xray scanners are installed security would be excellent !

Good and smart move, I remember Shaukat Aziz was in Customs Dept. for a full 24 hours to check each section of how equipment was being imported at teh time when he was just a Finance minister.

I hope they do the same at KPT and Port Qasim too ...

Right now they might be trying to wean Pakistan out of Chinese influence.
And block any attempts by India to from any kind of alliance with China.

Killing Muslims might be the general wish of the people in US and Europe. But certainly the govt cannnot afford such behaviour. (certainly not right now). It is definitely not the remedy for their woes.

They are pushing for the peaceful (but superficial) solution to Indo-Pak problems. Hence the aid for border terminals.

If US wanted to attack Pakistan, it would have weakened it with sanctions, blockades etc.
