Gandhara Nissan to roll out four vehicles in Pakistan

Staff Report

LAHORE: President Ghandhara Nissan Limited Lt Gen (retd) Ali Kuli Khan Khattak said Saturday that the Gandhara Nissan has decided to roll out four vehicles in Pakistan besides leasing its additional assembling facilities to Chevrolet and Renault.

Gandhara Nissan Limited, the marketer of Nissan vehicles in country, would assemble this brand in Pakistan, he said while addressing a press conference immediately after launching their full range of product in provincial metropolis at a local hotel.

He said the Gandhara could have roll out its products some 18 month back as the infrastructure was quite ready but they dropped the idea, as the model allocated to them was based on dying technology.

“We have geared up our efforts and are finally is a position to roll out locally assembled vehicles based on latest technology,” he said, adding: “We are presently importing Completely Build up Units (CBU) to market locally.” He denounced the impression that Gandhara-Nissan plant was not functioning.

"We are assembling Land Rover besides negotiating for assembling Chevrolet and Renault in Pakistan, which is in final stage".

He said Renault might be the natural partner of Ghandhara, as Renault owns Nissan’s international operations.

Regarding supply of trucks to armed forces, Gen Ali Quli Khan said they have provided 2,500 trucks to meet the annual demand of around 1,000 trucks without any problem.

We are one of two automotive assembling companies in Pakistan, which can claim themselves as Pakistani companies, having ability of assembling complete range of vehicles right from passenger vehicles to heavy weight trucks, he said.

Earlier, speaking on the launching of CBU model of Nissan cars and four wheel carriers, Gen Ali Quli Khan said that Nissan Car plant was established with the technical collaboration of Nissan Motor Company Japan in 1997 by his father late Gen Habib Ullah Khan. Similarly, Ghandhara Nissan Diesel was established in 1985 for assembling of Diesel trucks and buses.

Manager General Overseas Market, Nissan Motor Company, Ms Yoshie Motohiro also spoke on the occasion.

I think they may roll out Nissain Altima or Maxima as well, to compete with the Camry and Accord.

i dont get it. Nissan will be assembling chevy cars. does nissan and gmc has any contract or something?

this is only first step. We need production of cars in pak not just assembling. Assembling brings few jobs and thats it. production brings lots of jobs, huge provider services, lots of tech etc. and then the cars will become really cheap if they are produced in pak.
