Don't flame me if it's old...

Karachi, Pakistan -- American Maglev Technology, Inc. (AMT) received an exclusive franchise contract from The City District Government of Karachi (CDGK) in December 2004, to develop, finance, build, and operate a mass transit project along the "Priority One Corridor" along an eighteen kilometer (18 km) route in downtown Karachi.

This initial transit project is the first of at least six (6) intended phases of mass transit deployment in Karachi, with a completed development cost in excess of US $ 2 billion. AMT expects to bid and compete for these projects with its unique and patented transportation technology. It also expects to compete for implementation of mass transportation technology on new projects in Lahore, Pakistan and Islamabad, Pakistan. AMT expects to compete and incorporate significant power, real estate development, and communications services for all of its projects.

The Implementation Agreement with the Government of Pakistan is scheduled to be executed in early 2006, and groundbreaking for the project is scheduled for mid-2006.

Pakistan needs light railways, heavy carriages, and subway systems, for Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, we need double rail links from Karachi-Islamabad also from Gwader. We need to invest billions in transportation to get the country running and no is better than China because they have been building thier country for the last 30 years and have un limted experince look at Tehran subway its made by Chinese company.
wiseking

we'll have to see if the CDGK goes through with this. groundbreaking was initially estimated to begin in october/november but i guess LB elections pushed everything back. i am curious as to how the city government can negotiate with a firm that seems to be rather unknown. i would much rather bring in the malaysians. we'll have to see. i have my doubts as to whether or not this particular contract will be signed.
