Rs 400bn Communication Network plan chalked out

LAHORE, Punjab -- The Ministry of Communications of the Federal government has chalked out a 10-year plan for improving the existing communication infrastructure and construction of roads network in the country at an estimated cost of Rs 400 billion.

"The Ministry of Communication in collaboration with the Planning Commission has prepared a 10-year plan for Ecnec approval, Federal Minister for Communications, Muhammad Shamim Siddiqui stated this while talking to the newsmen here on Friday.

Under the plan four motorways from Faisalabad to Karachi including M-4, M-5, M-6 and M-7 and Peshawar to Karachi 450 kilometers long highway N-5 as well as 1,400 kilometers long N-55 would be constructed, he said.

The minister said all the four motorways would be constructed following international standards and having six lanes, while both N-5 and N-55 highways passing through Jamshoro and other interior Sindh cities would also improve their existing infrastructure alongside.

The government in collaboration with private sector, investors and consortium would undertake all those projects in a phased manner, he said.

The minister said that a big economic activity would be generated with the initiation of those projects and hundreds of thousands new job opportunities would be available in the country.
