Nespak awarded contract for Bangladesh highway project

LAHORE, May 4 (APP): National Engineering Services Pakistan (Pvt) Limited (NESPAK) has been awarded a mega highway project by the Government of Bangladesh.

The project involves engineering services for converting the existing 200 km long Dhaka-Chittagong two-lane road into a four-lane highway.

Other components of the mega project include a large number of major and minor bridges, a vast number of box culverts and other drainage structures.

The prestigious project will cost Taka 2000 crores (Pak Rs 17.265 billion) and will be completed in three years under construction/supervision of NESPAK and three local firms of consulting engineers.

A company spokesman said the contract was signed at an award ceremony attended by high officials and Pakistan High Commissioner in Bangladesh, Alamgir Bashir Khan Babar.

The contract was signed by the chief engineer Road and Highways Department, Ministry of Communications, Bangladesh, A.R.M. Anwar Hossain and the MD of NESPAK, Karamat Ullah Chaudry.

The High Commissioner of Pakistan stated that the project will further strengthen relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh, and observed that the project will prove to be an economic lifeline for the brotherly country.

The MD highlighted the role of NESPAK, presently working on 220 active projects in Pakistan and 34 other countries, with Bangladesh now becoming the 35th country.

Assuring top quality services, he said that NESPAK would be available for undertaking more projects in Bangladesh in the power, water supply, sewerage, transport and communication, and other engineering services.
