NEW DELHI, May 18: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s cabinet on Thursday gave approval to India to join the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) gas pipeline project.

The decision came four days before a separate trilateral meeting of petroleum officials begins in Islamabad as part of the working group consultations on the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI), a project opposed by the US.

Indian Petroleum Minister Murli Deora, briefing parliament about the proposed Islamabad meeting, denied reports that there was an agreement between Iran and Pakistan to allow for a higher off-take of gas for Islamabad from the IPI pipeline.

An official announcement on Thursday said that after the Indian cabinet’s nod for the Turkmenistan project, its name would change to Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (Tapi) natural gas pipeline project.

I think Pak should try and make IPI compulsory for India before it okays TAP. For a whole score of political reasons and plus extra $$.

Agreed...have Pakistan be like the costs of protecting the pipelines is increasing.

well as our Gernal President Pervaz Mushraf had said lif India wants to get Gas let it be from Iran or Turkmenistan it will be through Pakistan ! and this proves it !

The only thing I am seeing with India's inclusion is that every project is being delayed. The Indians have a habit of dragging their feet and its delaying gas supplies to us. I won't be surprised if they backed out of such projects after taking a long time. Their mentality is probably if we don't get it then you don't get it.

they'd be hurting themselves a helluva lot more then us. India is a major developing nation and needs greater energy supplies. they need that gas and petroleum more than us. they can drag their feet for a while because there are a lot of consideration that need to be made on their end (ie security of pipeline, fact that it goes through pakistan etc) but they'll kick it up a notch when their business leaders start whining about increased energy prices. eventually these deals will come through.

I think it is lot in the interest of India to get this gas pipe line project going well, they have been tried hard with Pakistan for quite sometime, So I would be surprise if they back out, chances are very remote, unless some clues are put that might make things hard for India to accept.

As far as the decision making process goes it always lengthy in India, because it not one person decision, process has to pass through number process before PM have a say on it, unfortunately everyone wants to feel important.

All these piplines will allow us to strangle the economy of 'mother india" at any time, not only that we get transit fees and our own demand for gas fufilled by it. Needless to say Hindustan is needing Pakistan much more than Pakistan needs Hindustan, Pakistan has survived for almost 60 years without trade with Hindustan, Who is begging for transit rights to CIS? Hindustan, Who is begging for trade? Hindustan, Who is begging for pipelines? Hindustan.

Musharraf is doing the right thing, if the time comes that Hindus cast evil eye on Pak, Pak will respond by cutting of the energy and DOWN..DOWN.DOWN goes the Hindu economy. laugh.gif

The best way to hurt the hindu is to hit him in his pocket, you take a hindus land like we did in 1947 and the hindu is oblivious, you steal a hindus money and the hindu will be wimpering will a whipped dog.

No offence buddy, but can you please mention your age, and if you are mature enough what is your qualification. (Qualification really does not matter, but your more towards business subject, then it is easier for us as we can be on same page).

Reason I am asking you this is, because it helps me putting my options when I discuss with you.

But still with what you have posted, I can start by saying, your are partly right, its all business and national interest, if India acts smart with Pakistan, Pakistani have something in its sleeves for India to consider before they do anything stupid.

Rest of everything what you have written is all crap.
