Kuwaiti group building wind-powered electric generation station in Pakistan
KARACHI, May 23 (KUNA) -- Several Kuwaiti companies represented by Sheikh Hmoud Daoud Al-Sabah have signed a memorandum of understanding for the sake of building and developing a wind-powered electric generation station in two stages.
The first stage consists in building a 50 megawatt out of a total of 100 megawatt power station. The Sind government has already designated a spot for the project, a statement by the Consulate General of the State of Kuwait in Karachi said. Work on the first stage is expected to start as soon as the paperwork is finished for the hand-over of the property.
The Kuwaiti group, which started its current visit to Pakistan on May 14 and ended it on May 21, had met with Pakistani Federal Minister of Oil Mohammad Nassir Mengel. He expressed his country's need for building more than one power station to help in the oil refining process in the enclave of Gwadar and the province of Sind.
"The Kuwaiti group is also to build, in the coastal city of Karachi, an oil refining station capable of processing 150,000 barrels of crude oil per day," the statement said.
