Pak-China trade set to reach $10b

ISLAMABAD: Annual trade between Pakistan and China is expected to touch $10 billion mark by the end of this year after the two countries signed a free trade agreement (FTA).

Pakistan and China already have excellent business relations, which would jump up with the agreement to over $10 billion, according to a source on Tuesday.

In the first three months of 2006, bilateral trade was $1.018 billion, 42.3 percent more than that in the same period of last year.

The trade volume between China and Pakistan reached $4.26 billion in 2005, 39 percent more than that in the previous year.

Pakistan was considering signing trade agreements with all the neighbouring and developed countries to improve its economy.

Pakistan and China are expected to sign the FTA by Dec this year and the fourth round of the FTA talks were expected in September in Beijing. app

There will be a trade deficit in China's favor ofcourse. What are we exporting to China that they can't already make?

u want to know the truth which i have seen quite closly well it is that cheap stuff coming from china into pakistani markets whics are also dangerous to human health. these items include makeup etc.
how do i know. well some closly relative are invloved in import businees. the main makert use to be UAE where good qualit stuff was imported from and sold in the local market however for last 4 or so years this have changed dramatically and importers started to look for higher profit with cheap quality goods so they turned to china... and they are making profit as high as 100%+ on the good they import. we need to have quality control imposed or else our ppl will be facing srs health issues. trust me guys china mite be our friend we still need to protect our ppl from cheap items.

isn't there a fair trading commission or soemthing along those lines that can investigate such things? actually knowing pakistan i think i can already guess the answer to that question...

a trade deficit is alright so long as what is imported is eventually gonig to be used to pay-off our debt. ie machines and engineering skills etc. if the bulk of it is just consumer products then this will adversely affect growth at some point in the future if the deficit keeps increasing to a larger percentage of GDP.

well as far as i know there is no such comission and even if there is its not hard to get around it.. well at this moment most of the goods are consumer goods. it is really concerning not just becoz der is deficit but also the cheap imported goods are killing the demand for better quality local made goods such as foot ware. i was watching the documentry abt it and it mentioned how the importing of foot ware is killing local market. we need to plan now to prevent any future demage.
