This compares to 6% of Lankans, 35% of Indians and 36% of Bangali's.
Its a problem we have to solve.
" Given the huge positive press that India has received in recent times, it is sobering to discover that India's per capita income is just a shade higher than that of sub-Saharan Africa, and about one-sixth that of Latin America.
Equally surprising is that 35% of India's population lives on less than $1 a day, which is comparable to Bangladesh's 36% and much worse than Pakistan's 17% and Sri Lanka's 6%. "

17% is way too high, thats like Canada's population! More needs to be done to reduce that number - I think we should start more public development programs. Like pay these people and emply them to fix up their villages.

srilanka has spread out its development pretty well, but then its a little island easier to do. Bangladesh and India specifically need to do more for their poor, instead of glorifying bengali or 'hindu' culture and assorted 'victories'. Once the population's mind is off the brainwash feed, they can begin to focus on harsh realities.

I think with the functioning of Gwadar port and an Economic Exclusive Zone and Industrial area along with port, we can reduce poverty in Pakistan more rapidly. I can foresee a lot of Pakistanis moving to this area in search of better job opportunites. Millions migrating to this area is no big deal.

17% is huge...more than the size of Afghnaistan whole population... No need to see in the prespective of percentage VS percentage of the other countries... but it should be seen in the prespective of how much ppl are effected by it....(almost 11 million ppl in case of Pakistan) ,... its a huge number.. need to do more..

he mentioned that in 2004 pak per capita income was 600$. That is good. But then I hope that in 2006 we not only have much higher income but also the rate of poor under 1$ per day is reduced to below 10%.
