CNG Use in Pakistan Creates Energy Export Opportunities

Source - The International News

Pakistan, Islamabad

Reduced gasoline consumption in Pakistan, caused by the increasing use of compressed natural gas (CNG), is creating a surplus of refined gasoline in the country, creating unforeseen export needs.

According to The International News, the country’s largest refinery is seeking buyers for as much as 250,000 tonnes of gasoline for 2007. the figure reportedly equates to 25% of the country’s annual gasoline consumption.

I am realy surprised by the news, that means our present refining capicity is 25% more then our local use because of use of CNG.

Pakistan has surplus of petrol production but much deficit of diesel. As more and more petrol run cars are trun to CNG, its usage is decreasing rapidly. On the other hand CNG conversion of buses, trucks and heavy veihcles is too slow, so diese usage is incresing. Pakistan has to import a huge quantity of diesel from Kuwait every year. I think government should encourage&compel local refineries to produce more and more diesel which needs more investment in production facilities instead of petrol. Also government should have strict policy to have more and more buses and trucks run on CNG, specially in urban areas which will be good for environment as well.

Instead of exporting the oil why don't they simply reduce prices. so we can use it on cars which are only good when used in Patrol........

Suply and Demand. Maybe that can be done. though like others im not in favour of such thing. Now ur answer just b4 mine is related to this. Now since uve just mentioned above Petrol does better than CNG in cars. So imagine reducing the prices than we will see CNG useage go down very rapidly. Now most cars in pakistan have dual system so they wouldnt mind cheap petrol.

So CNG is cheap, locally produced but its also enviromentally friendly. Bro u know what pakistani skies look like they are always hazy.. On similar note we can also earn money by export the refined oil. So +++++ for us all round.
