Now $ 25 billion in three years is above $ 8 billion a year! And that too in Punjab! Good news, but is it true?

this is the point

for god sake dont put this valuable money into dha and construction and property.

INVEST IT IN

1) POWER GENERATION PROJECTS ( especially hydal , nuclear , wind )

2) ENGINEERING SECTOR.

3) STEEL MILLS .

4) MACHINERY TO DEVELOP OUR NATURAL RESOURCES.

5) INCREASING THE DEFENCE PRODUCTION CAPACITY for LOCAL AS WELL AS EXPORT USE.

Economic boom in any coutry starts from construction and trickles down to other sectors, thats how money is distributed from those who have to those who work for living, increasing their buying power and creating demands for industrial good and services.

A business man doesnt go into a business for welfare of others or the country (although there are few who do)

trust me i understand the profit motivation of businessmen and i understand the trickle-down effect (even though it has never really been empirically proven in just about any developing country).

what bothers me is that all the investment whether from dubai or elsewhere always goes into construction, why not into steel mills (i know there is a bit going there but relative to construction not much) or IT or other technology related industries....

Probably because the construction industry has more cost to benefit ratio at this time than the others. Steel mill requires a large sum of money and the setup time is longer compared to in a construction industry where houses or office plazas are rected with in a year or two and are sold or rented right away.

I have a general feeling that alot of our industrialists are not much philanthropists. They don't think once about nation building but twice about wealth building.

Your assumption is wrong. in middle eastern countries , for decades money is being spent on real estate and building and no technological advancement took place their.

Its the job of government to attract investment in other sectors ESPECIALLY when we also have trained manpower.

There is a lack of awareness in people that other business apart from real estate cant give profits.

THE POWER SECTOR IS VERY PROFITABLE SECTOR TO INVEST IN.

LOOK AT american ENERGY GIANTS. THE RATE OF RETURN ON POWER PROJECTS IS VERY HANDSOME. PLUS PAKISTAN IS VERY ENERGY HUNGRY AT THIS MOMENT OF TIME.

WE NEED HUGE INVESTMENTS IN POWER SECTOR FOR PROVIDING CHEAP POWER TO OUR INDUSTRY TO STAY COMPETITIVE IN WORLD MARKET OF EXPORTS.

If we can not make dams , it does not mean that we should not install HYDEL POWER PROJECTS on our river system.

There are plenty of sites on river indus and jehlum where we can generate electriciy from water. No attention to this by governments is CRIME.

HERE , THE FUTURE INVESTORS MUST BE MOULDED AND FACILITATED. ENOUGH OF REAL ESTATE.

My friend, calm down for a second. Those Arab countries do no have a population big enough. Where as in Pakistan, Mullas daba kar bachay paida kar rahay hainkay whocares, Allah tala will take care of the kids. All that population needs shelter and that is where the foreign investment is coming. Not becasue they have any love for the Pakistani population. It is more profitable in a quickest time.

Other projects mentioned by you are also a must have but they take long to be build and completed.

If I want to invest some money, I want to have a quick return starting as soon as my money withdraw from my account.

Traditionally pakistanis that live abroad have usually invested in Land and Property, though this does not do much for the economy and the rental returns are not as high as they were before.

Here are buisnesses that would be ideal.

Materials manufacturing, plastics, resins, alloys, steel etc.

Chemical manufacturing

Food Manufacturing factories

Pharmaceuticals (GENERIC) licences would be easily available

Technology orientated industries. I.T, telecoms, etc

Defence related sectors.

A cousin of mine started to manufacture cables, wires, and small electrical based items, he now exports to over 30 countries and is looking to set up a 3rd plant.
