KARACHI, April 24 (APP)- An Italian engineering and technical University will be established in Karachi. This was announced by Prof. Bernardino Chiala, Vice Rector for Education Programmes, Politecnico Di Torino, at a briefing at a local hotel on Tuesday.
The Consul General of Italy in Karachi, Domenico Beninocasa, was also present on the occasion.
Prof. Chiala said that in this connection Politecnico Di Torino, which is the first technical university in Italy and ranked seventh in Europe, has signed an agreement with the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The Campus, Prof. Chiala pointed out, would be located at a land measuring about 1,300 acres and in this area the universities of France and South Korea would also be housed.
He informed that five Italian universities with Politecnico in the lead, have formed a consortium for the setting up of the Karachi campus of the Italian University.
Prof. Chiala said that our vision for the Karachi campus embraces a strong focus on technology transfer.
He stated that a big technology park comprising privately owned company research centres and an incubator for the innovative high-tech companies will be hosted in the campus and coordinated by the other two universities- the French and the South korean.
Prof. Chiala was optimistic that this will help improve the level of engineering education in Pakistan and that this will also attract the Italian companies to benefit from the good-quality labour force here at a reasonable cost.
He also pointed out that the Italian government strongly supports the initiative of the establishment of the Italian University in Karachi.
About the administrative set up, it was pointed out that the Chancellor of the University will be from Italy whereas there will be two Vice Rector each from Italy and Pakistan.
Initially, there will be more faculty members from Italy and as the Pakistani teachers assume the responsibility the number of the Italians would decrease gradually.
