i know China is at first place.. who is after china
GreenBeret
France and USA militarily.Saudi Arabia and USA economically.
Skull-Buster
the poll title said after china and there is china in the poll options....

i voted for none of these, since most of them are US puppets and can turn their backs on us anytime when US wants.
MrBond
I voted NONE as frankly speaking, there isn't anyone else, and we really can't call US an ally due to the number of times they've stabbed us in the back and dropped us, only to come back shaking hands to use us yet again. But technically speaking, the US is our biggest trading partner and militarily they are at least no. 2, if not no. 1 already.
UnitedPak
Well, I would say Saudi, or the Arab world in general.
They are investing a lot of money in Pak, and didnt the Saudis fund our nuke program?

But we all remember their opinion of Pakistan before this so called "islamic bomb" came to the scene.
bessacarr
there is no ally of pakistan.every country have there political and economical reasons
CounterPunch
well..i dont find any of these allies

perhaps UKRAINE cud have fitted here much better than many in the list

dargay
Pakistan is a cowardly country which is unable to stand up to its interests. Thats why we are so heavily dependent on "allies".

Pak47
I'd probably go with Turkey, the Shah's Iran and Saudia Arabia (but the Saudi's are pretty much in it to sway their wealth and influence).
shahid_2dk
I would say Turkey.

Pakistan and Turkey are sharing a special bond

I agree with saudi arabia but i dont understand why we including americans as ally. They never were. They were simply paying for our services and nothing more.

I would go with france militarily and saudi arabia economically. I mean beside f-16 and sabre, americans really have given anything of significant killer.(cobras dont decide the war out come)

french on the other hand gave our whole submarine fleet, mirages, and other stuff. and have been giving it consistently.

I didnt propose/choose them to be allies.i just mentioned whats reality on ground.

Pakistan army has as many american weapons as chinese.Same with france regarding airforce(mirages) and navy(agostas).
Pakistan gets aid from USA,and oil from KSA.

Keeping in mind of the last decade and after the nuclear explosion it was Saudia which came forward & gave us the much required respite of US $ 1 billion oil / annum without any strings attached. Hence, after China it is Saudi Arabia.

However, no matter what would be the relationship with Iran presently but if war is thrust on us by US than I am sure Iranians would do everything possible to support us.

Of course Turkey & UAE would be there to support our cause too but I think they would be used for making lots of noise to stop any onslaught on us.

However, actually speaking I think the best ally after China which Pakistan is our Nuclear / Missile card. It is this reality which has kept all aggressors at arms length from attacking us and we should not at any cost compromise this capability.
JF 17 Thunder
I voted Saudi Arabia because I see them always there for Pakistan economically whenever we are under sanctions etc.

But I don't know what would Saudi Arabia's military position be if Pakistan was fighting a full scale war with an another nation today. I don't know whether the Saudis would appreciate it that we helped them in the 1991 Gulf War and as a result they would return the favour!

as much as that hurts, its kind of teh truth. pakistan needs to stand up on its feet compeltly(a task which we are very capable of doing, and could easily do).
I remmeber back in '98 when pakistan showed eevryone the finger and did nuke tests, and how EVERYONE was very proud of Pakistan, and its ablilty too say 'we will do wahtever we want". i remmeber that back then most muslims all around the world said "I AM A PAKISTANI TODAY!".
We are very cabpable of becomign a VERY self sufficient country, we just choose not to :/

Other that that, i think Saudi arabia is pakistan's secodn clostes ally and after that maybe turkey?
not-now
probably saudi arabia i think pakistan gets cheap oil from them maybe even turkey since they're sepcial forces train together also they provided f-16 part for pak when they were under sanctions.

where were these allies in 1965, 1971,

now this is called ally

Vice Admiral Swaraj Prakash (Retd.) INDIAN NAVY on 1971 war & american threat.

""INS Vikrant was on patrol north of Andaman Islands blocking the approaches to Chittagong when, on December 15th, late in the evening, the BBC announced the entry of the 'Big-E' task force in the Bay of Bengal. The broadcast added that the U.S. task force was to make for Chittagong to evacuate the stranded American citizens. This was a bolt from the blue. I conjured up a situation of a direct confrontation. I waited for instructions from the Naval Headquarters but none arrived. It was later at night that I decided to proceed south anyway, to intercept the 'Big-E' before she could enter the war zone. It was near midnight when the Midshipman on Watch approached me on the bridge and sought permission to ask a question. I nodded, and he said, "Sir, what would you do when you sight the Big-E?" This question was no doubt uppermost on my mind, but without any hesitation I replied, "You do not have to worry, young man. America is a friendly country, so I would wish the captain of the 'Big E' a good morning and ask him what I could do for him." The midshipman was not convinced and added, "What if the 'Big-E' opened fire against us?" I replied, "I have been educated in the Naval War College, and I understand the American psychology well. If the 'Big-E' attacks us, Abraham Lincoln would be turning in his grave."

Throughout that night INS Vikrant continued her sortie south, and our air recce covered an area to a depth of 500 miles. There was no sign of the U.S. task force, so in the absence of any instruction from the Naval Headquarters I turned back north to rejoin my patrol area. As the day dawned, BBC broadcast amplified its earlier report: that having entered the Bay of Bengal from the Malacca Straits, the U.S. task force had proceeded west instead of going north to Chittagong. On reflection I felt that my reactions in the warlike situation proved the value of my tenure at the NCC. As a postscript to this anecdote, soon after the victory of the Indian Armed Forces, one of the foreign celebrities that visited India was the renowned naval leader Admiral S.G. Gorshkov, Chief of the Soviet Navy. During his visit to Bombay he came onboard INS Vikrant. I had known the Admiral well earlier during my tenure in Moscow as the Indian Naval Attaché. The Admiral congratulated me and asked, "Were you worried about a battle against the American carrier?" He answered himself: "Well, you had no reason to be worried, as I had a Soviet nuclear submarine trailing the American task force all the way into the Indian Ocean."

I thought to myself, it is not easy to convert a cold war into a hot war. Cold war is brinkmanship and only posturing. When the chips are down, you do not play cat and mouse games but come prepared to hit hard to vanquish your adversary.""

RaZoR MC
Russia has proved to be a true ally.
I think if we had sided with Russia in the cold war, we wouldn't have gotten any economic benefits, but at least Russia is loyal to its friends and allies.
See what america did in 90s about the f-16 sale. They always use us and when there objectives are complete, they say that we are terrorists.

Amazing someone actually selected USA as the closest ally of Pakistan after China. WOW! Nice to know that we have some brilliant minds amongst us.

I actually think that it is Saudi Arabia. Time after time it was the Saudi government who have helped Pakistan on many occasions. The main one being the nuclear program.

Well I think that you are mostly correct except for two countries Iran and Russia. Iran is a shia state wanting to become a regional muslim power, but Pakistan a sunni state is in its way, that is why it is tiliting towards India. Russia will never forget their humiliating defeat in Afghanistan because of Pakistan. They could have better relations but could never become close ally.
You also forgot to mention Turkey which has great relations with Pakistan. I believe Pakistan's closest allies are in the order:
1)China
2)Saudi Arabia
3)UAE
4)Turkey

Cheers mate!
RaZoR MC
I actually agree, KSA has helped us behind the scenes in times of difficulty.
Still, KSA is not an "ally", they might have helped us economically, but they can/may not help us militarily.

Only China has helped us both ways.

Russia and Iran may not become military partners beyond a certain point BUT they do have every possibility of becoming trade and economic partners.

This is in the interest of Pakistan to have atleast trade ties with these 2 countries.

sorry for omitting very important TURKEY.

How can they help us militarily when they are not a military power and infact depend upon Pakistan for military support??? In other words they can help Pakistan financially and they are doing it and therefore they are an ally!
omarxizt
Nobody is an ally its all about special interest. On the grounds of National Security you cannot count on anyone being there to help out. Offcourse the interest are grand as of current to support Pakistan so they are still busy getting the remnants of the old Taliban regime. As per Saudi Arabia, well they always like a good Islamic country with first class armed forces behind them just in case and Pakistan fits the bill outright.

I voted Saudi Arabia for the same reasons many have cited already ($$$$$$). I could also see Turkey and to a lesser extent UAE.

I think this poll was a good idea in principle, but the poll is kind of corrupted because China was included. It doesn't make much sense to have a poll about "Who is Pakistan's closest ally AFTER China" and then include China as an answer choice (and have 20 people pick China). We all China is Pakistan's biggest ally, and after that are the Gulf Countries and Turkey. I hope Iran can join this list to because we need at least one "sane" neighbor.

Pakistan rejected Soviet invitation in 1947 and went to straight Washington instead, because Soviet Union represents godless man made idealogy based on Marxism which goes against basic fundamentals of islam and Pakistan is a country based and founded on Islam, the whole point was to have a country where muslims can practice islam in peace without intervention of idol worshippers so there is no way in hell we could recognise godless Soviet b@stards, look what they did in Afghanistan to 1.4 million innocent womens and childrens and look at Chechneya I hope these motherfuc$kers burn in hell to hell with these backstabbers.

India can be ally. We can work together to increase our centuries old trade. then economically we won't be dependent on west. Militarily we can first have some joint exercises, some sport events to boost the confidence and then finally become your military ally.

The Soviet Union wasn't this Godless state you're talking about - that's just the propaganda from the Soviet Afghan war. There's just a seperation between the state and church in Soviet rule, the church became a property of the people (no corrupt Mullahs would be great), but Orthodoxy was still strong during Soviet times - Stalin even mobilized his forces under the banner of Orthodoxy.

I tend to agree, Russia could have been a technologically good trading partner - cheap too..China anyway is enough now, so US or Russia aren't needed.

Honestly people we should not look to anyone as allies...Either we help ourselves which will benefit the people of pakistan or we let foreign influences (be it chinese or american) come in and benefit off of us. This is the problem with most people we believe that other countries will actually help when instead there all in this for profits. Just look at what happened in 1971 did the americans or chinese come to the rescue?

I think after China ,
1= Saudi arabia
2= Turkey
3= France

1= Saudi arabia is a good friend of Pakistan.Saudi arabia act as a friend of Pakistan in all wars.Saudi arabia als0 helps us strongly After nuclear tests back in 1998 and give us oil free in sanctions .

2= Turkey is helping Pakistan militarly and also close realtions between two nations

3= France/Italy also militarily and also in EU.
