Sept 30: Former US President Bill Clinton has appreciated the fast development process in Karachi and said this city is emerging as a new business hub on the world map and attracting investors world over. He announced that Clinton Foundation is establishing its permanent office in Karachi to specially focus on this city and he himself would visit Karachi soon. He expressed these views in a meeting with Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal during an international conference organized by Clinton Foundation at NewYork from September 26-28.
Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal arrived here Sunday after a 5-day visit to NewYork. He described the conference as highly useful and beneficial. The conference was attended, besides next US Presidential Candidate Hallery Clinton, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, by heads of states and governments of over 80 countries, major world investors, noted NGOs, experets of varied fields and about 1400 delegates of official delegations.
Mustafa Kamal referred to his meetings with world leaders and specially with former US President Bill Clinton and his wife Hallery Clinton.He said in his meeting with them, he briefed them about situation at home besides development projects of Karachi and particularly the steps being taken to provide facilities to people of this city. However, he said, Mr Clinton was already well aware about fast development taking place in Karachi and the world attention on it with regard to trade and investment.
"I invited Bill Clinton for a visit to Karachi and he accepted it", Mustafa Kamal disclosed and said the visit date will be decided later.
He said the former President was highly appreciative of City Government's Rs 8 billion Greater Karachi Sewerage Plan and observed that it would bring improvement in human health conditions and elimination of environmental pollution.
"It is big stride of Karachi's city government and we appreciate it", Nazim quoted Bill Clinton as having said this. Nazim Karachi said that during his speech at the conference's concluding session, Mr Clinton particularly mentioned the development works being implemented in Karachi and the facilities being given by the government to citizens and stated that Karachi is emerging as a new business hub of the world and investors world over are focusing their attention on this city.
Therefore, he announced, the Clinton Foundation will establish its permanent office in Karachi to brig this city into focus and for this purpose he will himself visit the city.
Mustafa Kamal said that during meetings with world leaders and official delegations, he briefed them about ongoing development process in Karachi and particularly infrastructure Development. He said he also addressed the US business people and told the world investors that Karachi has become a most important business and financial center of the region offering enormous investment and trade opportunities. Nazim said he informed them about the facilities and incentives provided by the goovernment to make investment climate more conducive and beneficial and particularly apprised them about infrastructure development that is reaching its culmination.
He said he told them that should they invest in Karachi, the government will be all prepared to provide them all possible facilities and patronage. Mustafa Kamal said that world investors were informed about availability of vast opportunities for making investment in the transport, energy and other sectors and asked them to take advantage of the situation. To a question, he said, dozens of meetings were held during the course of conference on poverty alleviation, health, education and energy supply. He said he attended the meetings and workshop on these issues and represented Pakistan.
He also referred to his addresses to meetings and workshop in which, he said, he apprised the delegates about the steps taken for development in these sectors in Pakistan and especially in Karachi.
