Have a look, and if anyones in a poisition to lend it would be one way of actually helping pakistan and pakistanis rather thanjust sitting and talking. Theres another group called asasah under www.kiva.org
"When you donate to Akhuwat, your money starts to circulate in the economy, helping a number of families stand on their feet and help their community.
Our typical loan size is Rs. 10,000. The beneficiries comes up with a business plan of their own. Examples include buying of a cart (rehri), setting up a neighborhood shop, or buying equipment for an enterprise.
According to islamic principles, no interest is charged on this loan. Every month (after the first month), the beneficiary returns Rs. 1000. After one year, he or she is eligible for another loan, to upgrade their business should they wish to do so. Loan limit is enhanced in case of second, third or fourth loan. Maximum credit limit is Rs. 20,000."
"What keeps the process running?
Akhuwat is proud of its 99% recovery rate, which is unheard of among micro-finance institutions. We attribute this to our close working with the community.
Our experience shows that the poor are very responsible in returning their loans, and know exactly what they want to do with that money.
The individual loans are disbursed in a mosque, which also attaches a religious sanctity to the oath of returning it on time.
For group based loans, our field workers work continuously within the community, and get to know most households. Moreover, the group encourages its members to return their loans on time"
Seems ot function along the lines of the grameen bank vision
