Acer achieves 335.1 percent growth
ISLAMABAD (January 13 2008): Acer Computer is the number one IT vendor in Pakistan with a market share of 6.6 percent, says IDC, the international research and analyst house. Acer notebooks have been very well received in Pakistan. Acer's year-on-year growth for notebooks for Q3 of 2007 was 335.1 percent, says a press release.

"Acer's state-of-the-art productline and innovative technology have helped establish Acer as the leading IT brand in a very difficult market," said Zahid Mahmood, Country Sales Manager Pakistan and Afghanistan, Acer Computers Middle East Ltd. "Acer position in the market is a direct result of our very successful channel business model, our partners have contributed heavily to Acer's success," he added.

IDC's latest figures show that Acer Computer is the vendor of choice both for consumers and business users. Overall, for desktops and notebooks, the company holds the number one position in Pakistan with a market share of 6.6 percent and year-on-year growth of 154.7 percent, whereas the market growth has only been between 30 to 40 percent.

An end-user breakdown of sales in the Pakistani PC market by IDC revealed that the education sector contributed to 6.7 percent of sales. Government spent 9.9 percent whereas small office and home's jointly constituted 29.2 percent. Small and medium businesses contributed a massive 30.6 percent whereas large and very large businesses spent 23.7 percent.-PR

Yah many students were forced to buy Acer as they had manged deals with many private engineering universities. Bahria University Karachi being one. The N.Books were provided on part payments but at exhorbitant prices and were compulsory to buy except if only you had a N.b that was p4 or something in the league.

I dont like Acer N.b a bit they are not of quality, better options include Dell or Compaq(HP) at slightly higher prices or better Toshiba if you go a little higher. Lenovo are good in their price segment but not better than HP

personal opinion no claims please.

What about other computer makers's market share in Pakistan , anyone knows ? Thanks.

Did I just here Dell and quality ? I think I am having hallucination.

Btw , how can Acer have the top spot with just 6.6 percent market share ? It does not really make any sense to me.

Same here... I´ve had quite a few laptops from Dell, Toshiba to HP/Compaq, Acer etc. Toshiba is my first choice too when it comes to laptops. Good service and driver updates are frequent. Acer support on the other hand is sucks...

PS. If you got the bucks go for MacBook Pro or Alienware! The real deal...

Then it is weird because I read some where that Acer was the most popular laptop brand in Europe.

I don't know about in Pakistan but here in Uk HP/compaq are rubbish (trust me I work with them everyday), acer I have not used much but Dell are usually the best. However in Pakistan I think it will depend on where the kit is assembled, what we buy here is probably not going to be the same thing available in Pakistan

I Love my acer, much better experience than last two Dells i had, of course not needing any support from vendors might be one reason, I know acer is not big of support but laptops being a consumer product nowadays who needs and has time to call support, throw it and buy another

gotten into the habit of anime, not too bad, its interesting to see how strongly they depict their dreams of revenge against america in their anime e.g. GIT. And how proud they are of their own culture.
