The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has procured a DVB-RCS satellite system to efficiently provide its more than 350 swift registration centres across the country with an access to the national database.
Moreover, the NADRA has expanded its network infrastructure capability to provide voice, data and video triple-play access to planned initiatives and services that require nationwide access. The Rs.93 million project covers commissioning of this third generation VSAT system including one HUB installed in Islamabad and 200 remote terminals across Pakistan. With this project the NADRA has taken a giant leap in terms of getting in sync with the telecommunication revolution and has emerged as a pioneer in the country to extend its range to the remotest areas of the country.
The acquisition of this technology has enabled the authority to cater to the security required to manage the national database and other services at par with the international standards. The existing terrestrial network infrastructure was designed on the initial data acquisition philosophy hence mesh architecture existed which could only connect eight core regions. The network infrastructure was unable to facilitate the growing business demands and futuristically challenging technical requirements. After acquiring the DVB-RCS system the capacity and design of old network infrastructure has also been optimised, resulting into a reduction in the operational costs.

This third generation satellite-based system has been carefully chosen to meet the requirements of network outreach, manageability, security and 99 per cent plus availability. Besides, had any other technology been selected, it would have required more investment. So, cost-effectiveness and subsequent reduction in the operational cost was another factor that had driven the NADRA to opt for this system.
The total cost of ownership (TCO) is significantly less as compared to any other network system when considering the time span of operation in three years. This deployment enables NADRA to gain the operational efficiency as well as reduction in the existing communication cost.
The system is currently providing mainstream network connectivity to swift centres, motorway toll plazas for vehicle identification project, Afghan Refugees Registration centres working under the UNHCR, banks, passport offices and other government offices.

It dont mean what we know about 3G wireless services. It means a third generation satellite's transponders bought by Pakistan to connect all NADRA's regional offices.

Its Basicly VSAT.

Its has nothing to fo with 3G

Its just Central Sever at ISB and SAT links down to Remote Users who have DVB cards or VSAT Ends.

and Nadra is not the Largest IT Company of Pakistan.

SHOCK......

Largest Secure and Equipment wise/Software Development company is PRAL. which works for Central Board of Revenue(CUSTOMS,FEDERAL EXCISE,INCOMETAX),Motorway Polic and Others.

PTA to offer 3G licences to cellular companies

KARACHI: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is planning to offer 3G licences to the existing cellular operators, sources told Daily Times here Tuesday.

Although according to the industry sources, it is too early to deploy this 3G technology, as all the operators are keen to invest in the basic mobile infrastructure, which should not be sacrificed or slowed down, as there are far too many people still without basic access to mobile telephony.

Sources said right now operators are focused on investing in far flung areas and un-served populations, who needed connectivity for basic services, to improve their productivity, and to reach out. The implementation of 3G technology will just divert this investment with limited benefits for those who are still waiting to be connected with basic voice services, their data needs being limited by lack of literacy, content, and affordability, the industry sources added.

Source in another cellular company said that, PTA was inducing their decision on the mobile phone companies to acquire 3G licence last year. Although all the operators resist against PTA decision and decided not to acquire the licence, as it will be too early to deploy this technology.

Another source in a mobile phone company said that the technology itself is very expensive and existing operators are investing huge amounts on their network expansion to take the lead from the other operators. Therefore, it is not a good time to deploy 3G technology in the market and another important aspect is that this technology would be available on expensive mobile sets. Hence this technology would not be considered for the subscribers belong to lower and middle class, the source added.

According to the industry sources, that the government should consider 3G not as a licensing opportunity but rather as allocation of additional spectrum linked with roll out obligations and not hefty upfront fee.

PTA and Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) should also make additional Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) spectrum available in order to have an equitable spectrum allocation. Existing operators feel that their proposed “beauty contest” approach as adopted by many countries including Malaysia and Norway is much better than open auction, which has resulted in financial problems and major delays in rollout after 3G auctions in Europe. Also, this way, operators will be able to work on 3G side by side, even as they keep on focusing on provision of mobile services to those who are still unconnected and remain a priority.

In December 2005, 100 3G networks were operating in 40 countries, according to the Global Mobile Suppliers Association. In Asia, Europe, Canada and the USA, telecommunication companies use W-CDMA technology with the support of around 100 terminal designs to operate 3G mobile networks.

NADRA to help TV channel cover Feb 18 elections

ISLAMABAD (APP) - The National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) has recently signed an agreement with a television channel for media coverage of February 18 general elections.
This service will be provided to all on request, but so far only a local channel has contacted in this regard, a NADRA official said here Sunday.
The Authority has recently procured a DVB-RCS satellite system that has enabled the NADRA to offer triple-play connectivity to other institutions like electronic media, he said.
The official said that around 25 sites of the TV channel will be using this facility, and later the same infrastructure will be permanently used to provide live coverage of different events for this channel.
He said the system was actually procured to efficiently provide NADRA’s more than 350 swift registration centres across the country with an access to the national database.

In addition, the NADRA has expanded its network infrastructure capability to provide voice, data and video triple-play access to planned initiatives and services that require nationwide access.
