Work on 1033 projects begun in earth quake affected areas in Pakistan

Work on 1,033 new schemes, including school buildings, roads and water & sanitation projects, has been started in five earthquake-affected districts of NWFP. The programme managers of the district reconstruction units (DRU) of five quake-affected districts held a joint progress review meeting of Provincial Earthquake Reconstruction Agency (PERRA) and Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority(ERRA) at DRU office in Mansehra, according to a communiqué issued here on Friday
The meeting was attended by ERRA Planning Director General-I Tariq Bajwa, Director General-II Arshad Mirza and PERRA Secretary-cum-Director General Muhammad Hamayun, Works and Services chief engineer, representatives NESPAK, forest, education and tehsils municipal committees, DRU programme managers of Mansehra, Abbottabad, Batagram, Kohistan, Shangla and PERRA Sectoral coordinators.
The meeting participants discussed the progress and issues with regard to the reconstruction and rehabilitation in five earthquake-affected districts of NWFP. They expressed satisfaction over the progress in the reconstruction work.
Tariq Bajwa suggested NESPAK general consultant to expedite the designing, bidding documents and survey work in the current year.
Appreciating the progress on WATSAN schemes, ERRA’s Arshad Mirza asked all the DRUs to complete all the water and sanitation schemes till June this year.
PERRA's Muhammad Hamayun appreciated the role of DRUs and assured his support to them. Earlier, the meeting was informed that reconstruction work on 1,033 buildings of various sectors in Mansehra, Abbottabad, Battagram, Shangla and Kohistan districts had been started. The Mansehra DRU programme manager gave details of the projects.
After the meeting, the PERRA director general visited the recently constructed building of the Mansehra Government Commerce College. He inspected computer laboratory and classrooms and appreciated the construction quality and design.
On the occasion, the principal of the college presented the problems being faced by the institution to PERRA director general who issued directives accordingly. He, however, added that teachers and students must make the most of the available facilities at the new building and focus on their studies for a bright future.
