Govt determined to solve problems: Abbasi

ISLAMABAD: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Federal Minister for Commerce on Thursday said that Pakistan is facing great fiscal and trade deficits, energy crisis, security problems, etc; however, the new government is fully determined to face these challenges and to find a solution to the problems to give relief to the business community and general public.

The minister, during his visit to the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), stated that the government would seek the support of all stakeholders, and particularly the business community, for bringing Pakistan out of the crisis situation. He further added that Pakistan has great potential and its exports should be 10 times more than the current figure.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi assured full cooperation of the government to the business community, and said that all stakeholders shall be consulted for the formulation of better economic policies. He also assured to support the demands of the ICCI.

Muhammad Ijaz Abbasi, President of the ICCI, at the occasion urged for the representation of the private sector in the CDA Board, TDAP, EDMF, REAP, BOI, Islamabad Club and the Citizens Club and other important organizations, which are interlinked with the trade industry. He said that without proper representation of the private sector in these organizations, effective growth oriented economic policies cannot be prepared.

Ijaz Abbasi said that a new industrial estate was required to be established in Islamabad because there is not enough space to install any industry in the current setup. He said that because of the inconsistency in the import and export of wheat, the import of wheat should be controlled by the private sector.
