Full Version: Turkey Reveals New Frigate...pakistani Tender?
Pakistani Defence Forum > Pakistan's National Security > Navy Forum

A Turkish poster on another forum recently posted a brief description on a new Turkish FFG called TF-100 from their official govt industry publication.

SSM (Turkish Industry Authority?) launched new FFG program based on the MILGEM corvette.

Displacement: 2500 to 3500 ton
Length: 105-120 metres
Multi-mission frigate with VLS capability

Apparently the Turkish Navy will procure 4 TF-100s, but it is interesting that SSM is already marketing the design against Western designers - namely saying TF-100 is cheaper and as modern - and they should be able to easily export to "friendly countries". I earlier mentioned the possibility of Pakistan and Turkey working on a modern frigate design...can't help but feel that TF-100 was revealed in response to the recent PN FFG tender. Plus the fact that TF-100 is based off MILGEM puts it in a particularly interesting situation...

The FFG tender just got more interesting...

Special thanks cabatli_53 on WAFF for the access & translation.

All I got is on the above post...I guess the 3500-ton TF-100 would be the same as the German MEKO Delta and French DCN FM400. However the TF-100 is based on the MILGEM, and PN has apparently chosen MILGEM for its corvette requirement. I think TF-100 would be a natural addition, and the Turks have already shown their intention to export it even though development just started. I imagine in the long-run the TF-100 would replace the MEKO 200s in Turkish service today. Nonetheless do recall this old thread I started a while back:

My idea:

A proper multi-mission frigate design in the 3000-3200 ton displacement range...scaled down Type-054A and/or scaled-up MILGEM - clean and stealthy design? Armed with 8 SSMs, 2 triple torpedo tubes, 32 VLS for medium-range AAMs & naval LACMs, capability to deploy NSSG special forces, a PDMS like RAM or Mica VL? Jointly develop certain subsystems with China and Turkey...import key things such as radar, sensors, command & control, etc.

Talk about luck...reminds me of the days when I used to "dream about PAF getting Block-52+".

I guess the only thing important now is the price tag--although it has been said that it is cheaper--but how cheaper is the real question.

Edit: According to confirmed insider sources as well as an interview article with ASELSAN, Turkish Navy has been working on a multimission frigate project code named "TF-100".

TF-100 is reported to be basically a lengthened and Mk-41 + ESSM installed version of MilGem.

Also reported is the possible procurement numbers of MilGem and TF-100: 1+1+6 for MilGem and 4 TF-100.

TF-2020 AAW frigate project will follow up TF-100.

It is an enlarged MILGEM, so it will look something like this:

sorry made mistake TF-100 will be most probably 2500/3500 ...
guess will be ready before 2015 ,let say latest 2015...
i heard some surprises coming especially fr missile systems (turkey about to decide some short-mid-long range SAM local production-partnership,
there are rumours fr navy productions too)

I imagine the SAM partnership would be with either Germany/IRIS-T SL or South Korea/Iron Hawk-II?

Any chance of applying those SAMs to future frigates?

in fact turkey is about to decide and invest on short-mid-long range systems..
all of them to be produced by locally with cooperations (we dont need too much foreign partner ship
especially for short - mid sam )
believe german iris-t sl does not have chance due to greek partnership in the missile...
as advised sea version will follow and most probably after 2015 to be used on our ships.

I've made a photoshop image on how the TF-100 would look in comparison to the milgem

Nice! I think TF-100 will be very similar to the Formidable Class.

New information from a Turkish member on WAFF;

Apparently TF-100 will be a 4000 ton multi-mission frigate with VLS.
