Colonel shot and injured while resisting robbery
Saturday, May 10, 2008

LAHORE: A Pakistan Army colonel was shot and injured while resisting a robbery in Gulberg late on Friday.

Operations SSP Shafiq Gujjar said Colonel Riaz from the 10th Division was driving to the Cavalry Grounds when he slowed down his car to answer his cellular phone. Two unidentified men riding a motorcycle approached him from behind and tried to rob him.

Gulberg Station House Officer Abdul Sattar said police responded to a phone call on the 15 emergency line and arrived on the scene but army officials had already taken Col Riaz to the Combined Military Hospital, where he is in critical condition. Police has not registered a case so far. staff report

Bro nothing apart from a sustained burst from your own weapon will help you in a close combat encounter with another firearm or knife. There was a story a few years back of a SSG operative who was robbed by three bandits whilst he was with his family. He shot all three dead with his MP5 and only sustained a shot in the arm.

Thank Allah the colonel is ok.

Agreed with Waz. Martial arts are not some sort of magic potion, your your approached with a gun, you can be in serious trouble. It only takes a split second to pull a trigger.
Londo Molari
how was he gonna do martial arts from within the car when they have a gun lol

Thank God he's ok.

Martial arts is taught to SSG operatives.Cadets are trained in PMA to become mentally and physically fit for any challenge: sharp minded decision makers and physically tough officers. The units constantly have P.T tests to ensure the fitness of the officers.
In this particular scenario, the officer had a choice and he decided to resist the robbers. The usual age of a colonel(full colonel) is between 43-47 years old.

i have a point to make regarding the physical fitness standards of officers.I have seen many pot bellied officers around.
True, there are drills and PT courses, but still i feel they become too much of a manager and too less of a soldier.

An officer shud b a soldier first who is equipped with command skills.

We need officer like Lt. Gen Farooq. of Fedral Food Committee.

yes that is true for :

1.Non fighting Corps(ASC,Signals etc)
2.Officers posted in staff positions rather than command positions.
