Microsoft, WWF name software design finalists

KARACHI: Microsoft in partnership with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) announced the Software Design category winner team from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).

The winning team will be sent by Microsoft to Paris to compete in the worldwide finals of the ‘Imagine Cup 2008’, stated a press release. The Imagine Cup is a global contest held by Microsoft to provide student innovators from around the world a platform to showcase their software development skills.

A total of 2,117 students from more than 40 cities of Pakistan representing over 65 universities and institutes participated in the 9 different categories of imagine Cup 2008. 5 teams, out of the 33 competing teams were short listed for the final rounds in the Software Design Category.

The National Final rounds were held at the Microsoft Innovation Center, located at FAST National University, Karachi, where a panel of esteemed judges comprising of officials from WWF, senior academicians and technology experts were present to judge the showcased innovative solutions of competing teams.

“The Imagine Cup is all about igniting the imagination of tomorrow’s technology visionaries and leaders, and inspiring them to harness the possibilities of technology to build a better world,” said Vaqar Khamisani, Manager, Developer & Platforms Group, for Microsoft in Pakistan.
