Shaukat Aziz flying high!

Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, Tuesday, May 20, 2008: Former prime minister Shaukat Aziz who is also here to attend the World Economic Forum on the Middle East sounded upbeat on on Monday about the fact that he is getting royal treatment by his hosts even though he is no longer the head of government in Pakistan.

In a brief chat with Pakistani journalists in the presence of Pakistan’s outgoing ambassador to Egypt Arif Ayub, he revealed that during his stay here he had been given a private jet through the courtesy of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. He then went on to add, “Even though I’m no longer the prime minister I have been given full protocol with pilot etc. I told them there was no need but they insisted.” He said he would travel to Cairo on Tuesday in the private jet.

On Sunday Shaukat Aziz also had a brief interaction with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at a dinner hosted by the Kazakh president. He again ran into the prime minister at a hotel on Monday where he had gone for a bilateral meeting. “He (Gilani) is a very sweet man and he embraced me both the times we met,” Aziz said.

The former prime minister also talked about the special treatment he was given during a recent trip to Indonesia. He also mentioned that he would soon be going to Malaysia and Singapore for an Economic Forum.

Shaukat Aziz was one of the panelists along with the World Bank President, Chairman Middle East Business Council and a business leader from Kuwait at the World Economic Forum on Monday. Speaking on the ‘Global Financial System’ he declared: “Sovereign funds are a good thing. The concern on sovereign funds is thoroughly overstated.” His view was that the fundamental cause of weak financial system is poor risk management. Prominent among those who attended this session titled ‘Committed to Improving the State of the World,’ were Governor State Bank of Pakistan Dr Shamshad Akhtar and Shaukat’s former cabinet member Hina Rabbani Khar, who has now joined the PPP and is Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Finance and Economic Affairs, and Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Special Assistant to PM on Social Sector. All three occupied seat in the front row of the hall.

What kind of new animal is that?

Has it been imported from abroad?

Can it survive in Pakistani environment?

Whats does it eat? Jam? Jellies? like Zardari's Horses?

Is it really worth to be imported in the Land of the Pure?

Couldn't we move on without it?

Because due to his sound investing strategy Mr. Shaukat Aziz is the right hand of Prince Bilal Al Waleed .. the mega tycoon who owns CITIBANK, DAEWOO & Kingdom holdings ...

Mr. Shaukat Aziz even when he was PM of Pakistan was called in his personal capacity in Arab Monetry fund gathering to give his professional advise in investing to Price Bilal ....

Perfessional bankers cum economist like Shaukat Aziz are kept with golden spoon in the bestest of hotels & luxurious life style ... but to whom am I saying that !!!!!!!

Has this shameless figure-fudging kutta permanently left Pakistan? A former prime minister doesn't want to be in the land he served - Only in Pakistan!

Ask the Democrats to give him a portfolio, he'll fly back in a heart beat to serve Pakistan.
Until then, he needs to move on with life (unlike Nawaz, parroting the same barking song since forever).
OmaR UK
Does'nt he have the right to spend time with his family whom he neglected for 8 years serving his country, he is also being invited by other countries etc and he is still doing positive work for our image even though he is an ex pm.
Shehz
Ah, so you're the one posting as annonymous, I was wondering who could that be.

No, not all, Zardari and NS go to jail, usually, and PM's like Shaukat Aziz gives them the pardon.

Nevertheless, just reading all your posts, 100%, you do nothing but swear or flame.
Try posting quality, you're wasting everyone's time http://pakistanidefenceforum.com//index.ph...mp;highlite=%2B

In-fact, after reading down, like after 7 posts, most of them are mocking Pakistan (sarcarsticaly), and pro-Indian.

Portfolio for what? So he could fudge some more figures? Do all Prime ministers leave their country once their tenure ends?
The dude has probably not spent a week in Pakistan after the elections. He ain't coming back. No one comes back to Pakistan, unless they know they have a chance to fill their coffers.

Your pessimism about Pakistan and her citizen Pakistanis is regretable and condemnable.
ZPak
THey treat him like the best because he is the best. The figure fudging allegations are just that allegations. He brought Pakistan back from the ##### Dar and Ganja put it in.

The entire world sees that this man is good at what he does. I'm glad he's getting the respect, he deserves it thouroughly.

Speedy, I guess you need to slow down a bit and look around to appreciate the Egyptians for giving high priority to a person from our country. By doing so they showed their high regard for our nation and its people. We should appreciate their goodwill gesture. PakistanFlag.gif

Aziz denies remarks against PML-Q

Online

LONDON: Former prime minister Shaukat Aziz has said that his remarks about the PML-Q being a party of opportunists had been quoted out of context.

In an interview, he said that he was elected PM only because of the PML-Q. He said he could not even think of talking against it.He said losing elections was part of the democracy and if he ever got another chance to serve his party and nation, he would not hesitate to respond with the best of his abilities.

Aziz blames caretakers for most economic woes

By M. Ziauddin

LONDON, June 4: Nawaz Sharif will soon pull the plug on Asif Ali Zardari and force a fresh election which he will sweep, paving the way for a two-party system to emerge with the PML-N in the government and the PPP in the opposition, predicted former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, sounding more like an ordinary bystander to the current goings on in Pakistan rather than one who only a few months back had served as a military dictator’s ‘democratic’ face.

In any case, he said while talking to Dawn on a range of subjects that President Pervez Musharraf was the glue that was keeping Sharif and Zardari together and “as soon as the fastener comes off loose, the two will go their separate ways”.

He looked visibly disappointed when told that he had got it all wrong as according to sources close to the two parties, Zardari and Sharif were sticking together because they did not want to face another elections so soon with all the major players opposed to them still in power.

He did not agree with the suggestion that the two parties would bend over backwards to complete the tenure and use the time first to get power transferred from the presidency to parliament and then to strengthen the constitution.

He implied that the two governments, the federal and the Punjab, have started indulging in what the two parties used to do by way of financial shenanigans when they were taking turns in Islamabad in the decade of 1990s.

He also implied with innuendoes that during his recent visits to the US he had found the administration there to be wary of both Asif and Nawaz and that the stock of Musharraf and the new COAS, General Kayani, very high, “especially that of General Kayani.”

Mr Aziz described the post-election Pakistan as a rudderless ship which he said needed a firm hand to steer it clear of troubled waters.

He blamed the interim government of Mohammedmian Soomro for most of the economic problems that the elected government was facing today.

When asked how could the new government cope with the high world fuel and food prices, he had no ready answers.

As usual he took callous credit for the power shortages, claiming that the shortages reflected the ‘economic boom’ that he as the finance minister had brought about.

When asked for his response to former law minister Wasi Zafar’s claim that he was not taken into confidence about the reference against the chief justice, Mr Aziz dismissed his former cabinet colleague as someone not worth wasting his breath on. He, however, claimed that it was he and General Hamid Javed who had warned Musharraf that CJ Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry would not take his dismissal lying down.

When reminded about Musharraf’s claim that he had only forwarded the reference sent to him by the prime minister, Mr Aziz sidestepped the question but said rather meaningfully that the president was known for standing by his friends.

Giving a self-serving spin to the allegations levelled against him by General Qayyum of the Pakistan Steel Mills and General Jamshed Kyani of the Federal Public Service Commission, Mr Aziz said he had put these two generals, who were trying to browbeat him with their army connections, in their place.

According to him, General Qayyum wanted the PM to allow him to open the L/C for taking in hand the expansion process of the Pakistan Steel Mills. “You know what that means,” he said, alleging corruption on the part of the former Pakistan Steel Mills chairman without actually levelling the charge in so many words.

“We had already decided to privatise the mills so there was no logic in starting the process of expansion before privatisation,” he said reinforcing his argument.

He said the Federal Public Service Commission was only a recommending agency and the prime minister was not constitutionally obliged to accept all its recommendations.

He disassociated himself from the Lal Masjid bloodbath saying: “It was completely a military operation.”

He agreed that the PML-Q was not a political party but a group of opportunists and said that he had to be on guard all the time because his own party

was out to pull the rug from under his feet at the slightest of excuse, “and there were as many as 12 potential prime ministers all jostling all the time to push me over”.
