‘US package could have kept Nawaz from N-tests’
Saturday, May 31, 2008

LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif would not have conducted the nuclear test in 1998 had he been offered a ‘lucrative’ package by the then US president, former Foreign minister, Gohar Ayub said on Friday.

Talking to Dawn News, Ayub said Nawaz had clearly said in the Defence Committee meeting that he did not favour nuclear test as he feared economic sanctions, but had changed his mind when a majority in the meeting had favoured it. He said some other key cabinet members including Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Sartaj Aziz, Mushahid Hussain and Abida Hussain also opposed the nuclear tests. daily times monitor

^^^ this displays to you the typical cowardice of politicans. The only reason we had nuclear tests was because he felt the strength of the militaries conviction and thought they'd tie him to the bomb as they tested it if he didn't oblige.

This goes in accordance with my earlier said comments that Convict Nawaz Sharif was told by General Jehangir Karamat that

Apni taqreer tayyar karlo kiyoonka dhamaka hoga

.

Even during the meeting, while everyone was debating for and against the nuclear explosions, he was the only one who didnt say anything. Once he was told and it became clear that dhamaka hoga, he agreed because he had no other option.

Any leader at that time would have agreed !!
