Rail freight sector yield Rs 745 million

LAHORE: Pakistan Railways earning from its freight sector has increased by Rs 745 million as compared to last year.
This was told to Secretary/Chairman Railways Muhammad Kashif Murtaza during a meeting at the Rail Headquarters here on Friday.
General Manager Operations Asad Saeed told the Chairman that the increase in earnings was the result of an increase in the quantity of goods transported by the railways. He said coal and oil remain the main items transported besides various other goods.
The Chairman directed for further improvement in the freight sector and providing more facilities to the business community.
He directed General Manager Operations to write a letter to Inspector General Railways Police, asking him to take action against the concerned police officials in case of any incident including kidnapping of station master from any rail station in interior Sindh including Sukkur Division.
Regarding incidents of theft from rail yards, he directed the concerned in-charge be held responsible and due action taken against him.
The meeting was attended by GM Manufacturing and Services Farooq Aziz, Member Finance and other high officials.
