MV Behr Kusha inducted in Pakistan Navy

BEIJING: MV Behr Kusha, a dredger, has been inducted in the Pakistan Navy to enhance its dredging abilities.

The dredger was recently handed over to the Pakistan Navy at a ceremony held at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard. The Pakistan Navy has purchased the dredger from the China Shipbuilding Corporation. Vice Admiral Nayyar Iqbal visited China to attend the handing over ceremony. Consul General of Pakistan to China Zafaruddin Mahmood and the vice president of China Shipbuilding Corporation were also present on the occasion.

What type of a dredger : CSD (Cutter suction dredger), bucket dredger, pontoon based backhoe dredger, etc ! What is the dept to which it can work !

Why does the navy need a dredger? Isn't there any other government institution responsible for these activities (i.e. KPT, Gwadar Port Authorities)?

KPT Already have one , Navy did not have it so bought it now they donot have to wait for the KPT dredger secondly It will be use at pasni Naval base before that Navy use to outsource Dredging work which was use to be very expensive.

Bismark : thanks for the reply ..

It is very healthy to observe that PN is getting hands on experience in dredging, as there are very few dredging companies in the world & as usual for performing small jobs the mobilization & demobilization costs inreases the project price drastically. Not to mention PN is having ample extra berthing facilities & sailors, who like FWO can be utilized to perform Naval projects and at freetimes basis can even be outsourced for doing private projects.

The island projects of Emaar would be developped soon (i hope) and the dredging equipment available in Pakistan can be leased on rental basis for developing such type of projects.

In short a "win win" scenario.

Yes but Gwadar port is already with the Singapore Port authorities and it is their job to do the maintenance & upkeep of the port.

Otherwise for Gwadar Development Stage II their is altogether a major dredging portion which has to be sub-contracted .. as their are millions of cu.m. of dreding works to be performed enabling super freight tankers to start berthing at Gwadar port.
