In 1947, pakistan's population was about 28 million. (west Pakistan at that time)
in 60 years, it has increased about 6 times to 170 million.

as a result, we are facing severe food shortages (grain and livestock)
water resources are same.but we can manage existing water in a better way to conquer the hunger.

Food security is not less important than protecting borders.

Acording to a very detailed study of world's population by UNO, Pakistan's population will touch a peak of 440 million till it becomes steady.
it means we need to prepare for smarter living. (of course population control awareness is a solution, but we need to produce more food. If we want to avoid famine conditions in a few years from now, we need to start planning.

we need to use pipes/conduits instead of open canals. it will conserve water against wastage and evaporation.
we need to have smarter distributiories, that don't waste water and land in form of "Sem and thor"

we need to adopt spray irrigation, which doesn't need re-inventing the wheel and there are dozens of off shelf solutions available in market. and we have enough manpower to do it ourselves too.
if we don't want corporate farming, we can go for co-operative local farming. govt can help manage the adventure.

for those who are not familiar with pacmans visible from space, every circlular field of one mile diameter means about half million dollar worth of grain in single harvest. do rest of math yourself.
Sorry for attaching many images, but they are worth thousand words each.

here is the possible implementation.

In map below, i have highlighted areas where it can be done.

Saudi Arabia has been doing it successfully in absolute dry deserts.
we have mixed arid and seasonal flooded areas for this. all we need is building small reserviors to collect and use water at right time.

we have to do this sooner or later. awareness is the first step towards it.

just trying to pull this poor thread up to be visible at least.
nobody bothers to comment on such topics, and keep on crying about vegetable prices.
Jana u can use this for your research too. writing just a line will give it some time to stay alive.
I was in an arid area of pakistan during Feb-April this year.
Northern punjab gets some rain during feb, that usually tripples the wheat crop yield.
on right time, just 10-15 mm of rain makes this difference.
this time it was dry, while people were praying daily for rain and grain dried out immaturely.

accuweather.com forcast was so accurate. their website is publishing 15 days forecasts for pakistani cities nowadays.

at the end, they said.................this was a bad year, let us wait for next year and hope it will be better.
I decided to get a water bouser with a water gun, and Inshallah it will bring a better year for my village.

Rain Gun Irrigation

there are several rainguns available in Pakistan. Chinese ones are well researched and evaluated by our govt. they are very cheap, yet very less people know about them.

http://www.pcrwr.gov.pk/New_Journals/Vol7-...ese_raingun.pdf
Indians are using rainguns in rajhasthan and punjab successfully for long time. (with water stolen from our rivers thru Indra gandhi canal)

our farmers need to use it, to get more yeild in Arid and non cultivated lands.
they are effective, economical and quick, to be used for small farms.
here is a video demo

we need to assure our food security for tough times ahead. a little investment in few rainguns per district can make big difference.
talk about them with people you know, to make a difference before next wheat season starts in few months.
