While there is a lot of interest into which radar package the paf will buy for the jf-17, klj or rcs-400, does anyone know if there is a pakistani radar package under development? I seem to recall some interview when it was said that the jf-17 will ( I assume eventually) have pakistani avionics.

There are plans to get ToT with Thales and CAC to manufacture avionics at PAC indigeniously. Lets see what happens.

I am sure Pakistan is producing the Griffo-7 Italian radars and possibly following up with a more capable version.

I get the imprssion the grifo is largely an italian effort with little work by pakistanis.

We cannot say anything as for now. And if PAF is planning to aquire anything then it doesnt mean we are nill at self support.
Like PAF is aquiring F-16s and still we are developing thunders. 2 things at one time. So thats the point.

The word you are looking for is "indigenous", which with the exception of a few countries, is almost un-heard of where as others settle for joint-ventures, ToT, reverse engineering, or in some cases obtain blue prints of a succesfull design.

If we can make our own airframe, engine ( tot ws-13 ), and avionics we will be sanction proof, and begin to dominate the global market.

The reports regarding indigenous avionics werent talking necessarily about the radar but some parts of the avionics package as a whole. I believe that Pakistan is developing the ECM and ECCM for the JF-17's avionics package. The radar will undoubtedly be either Chinese or French (recent reports suggest French is more likely).

However, Pakistan does make some radars under liscence (Grifo 7, Grifo M)... but it has yet to develop its own.
