That's probably not true. Chinese football team is a shame of the country but they are overpaid. Look at China's women football team, they are much more underpaid, but fared much better.

Chinese don't do well in sports which involve body contact but excel in fields that require precision control of body and skills like table tennis, badminton, volleyball, diving, weight lifting, shooting in guns and arrows, etc. It is caused by difference of body structures. Blacks do well in tracks, their mussel texture gives them more explosive force than other races, but when they come to swimming pool, this advantage becomes a disadvantage in resisting earth's gravity.

So it's no shame Chinese basketball team gets owned by American's, don’t compare our weak points with other's strong points, it is only sports.

I would put it this way: We don't do well in all three so called "big balls" events, especially in men - volleyball, soccer and basketball. For volleyball and basketball, we are doing good if we can make it into the final eight. As for soccer, I won't hold out too much hope for getting beyond the first round of elimination.
The women teams are somewhat better and may stand chances to bring home medals.

It is rather premature and silly to predict who will actually top the medal rounds-however the host Chinese will try all-out with maximum effort to be the best("Project 119",et al).It is a given that the perennial medal powers like U.S,Russia,China,Germany,France,U.K will dominate with regional powers in specialty sports(Koreas in the archery,Australia-swimming) will also be seen on the podium. There is no absolute genetic differentation about races(this is a European psychological ploy to keep down other races)-out of any large population(the larger the better-like China's)-there will be many talented/gifted youngsters.It is up to the authorities(national/educational/societal) to pick out,train,educate ,support,finance,inspire and nourish their body,mind and soul of these individuals so that they may blossom at the national,and international levels.Make no mistake-it's war on the sporting field every 4 years.Only time is in the way of China in the athletics,track and field ,and other sports like soccer and World Cup.I respect and admire their efforts and success unlike the typically disgusting Indian impotent,chest-thumping,boasting and obvious jealousy-definitely not worthy of a 1.1 billion population with virtually no medal hopes.

I don't see China doing well in basketball, it's a tall mans game. Shorter people can beat tall people in basketball, but you have to be explosively quick in your attack and your movement. However with other sports I don't think it will be the case. China is not a country of physically weak people. You have a lot of people that excel in martial arts, do things people from other countries can't think of, simply because they can control thier strength, the same can be done in other sports. You can be shorter but equally as strong.

Take football for example, some of the stars of the English premier league in the past have not been tall strong lads. Dennis Wise was 5'6 and a a defensive midfielder, tackling, pushing, running, a very combatative player and respected for his efforts. Gianfranco Zola, Paulo Di'Canio, but genius players, put them in google and be amazed, ran rings around bit strong players using thier skill. 2008 has come early for China, but 2012 and 2016, you defintely will have spent enough money on enough atheletes to compete for number 1 spot and expect to get it.

Actually, the reason why China's team is not very good compared to America's or Europe's is because they are too TALL. Look at their line-up, Sun Yue, arguable China's best guard is 6'9. They have 3 players above 7 feet while they have only have 3 players on their team that are below 6'6. That's why its lumbering guards are China's Achilles heel.

China targets more golds in 2012

China will target sports including cycling, athletics and swimming to increase its gold medal haul at the 2012 Games, China's sports chief says.

"Only through widening our gold-winning face... can we adapt to the fierce competition in future," Liu Peng was quoted by the Beijing News as saying.

China came top of the medals table at this year's Games, winning 100 medals in 25 sports, including 51 golds.

But they came mostly from its strong sports like gymnastics and diving.

"There is still a relatively large gap between China and the best in the world in the high-profile items like athletics, swimming and cycling, and also in the popular ball sports," Liu said.

"Also, we have already mined our full potential in our strong sports at Beijing."

China won just two bronze medals in the athletics competition. Gold medal prospect Liu Xiang pulled out of the 110m hurldes with a leg injury to the disappointment of millions of Chinese fans.

The United States topped the athletics table with 23 medals, including seven golds.

Great Britain dominated the cycling medals, picking up eight golds. China managed a solitary bronze in the women's sprint event.

In the pool, China fared better winning a gold, three silver and two bronze medals. But it still trailed the US which won 12 golds among its 31 medals.

Liu called on China's athletes to make greater sacrifices and upbraided a "minority" of teams that had failed to fulfil their promise in Beijing.

"These [problems] require earnest reflection, to build courage from shame and to make up lost ground," he said.

"As soon as we step off the podium, everything starts from zero."

Earlier this week Chinese state media reported that Chinese athletes who won gold medals in Beijing are to be paid about $51,000 each (£28,000).

The payouts are an increase on the $29,000 (£16,000) that China paid its gold medallists after the 2004 Games.

RACISM ASIDE( i am not a racist) one of the main reasons that US wins more of the time and some other african countries in sports mainly related to speed and power is that blacks have more muscle bundle fibers as compared to others. Have you ever seen a white person win constantly in 100 meters race. Basketball is another sport where they excel.Similar is the case with boxing.Mostly Blacks are the heavy weights.
