WANA: Unidentified miscreants attacked military installations in the restive South Waziristan Agency with rockets here in the wee hours of Tuesday, officials said.
Official sources told The News that miscreants fired four rockets here in Wana in which one rocket hit an electricity transformer inside Zyari Noor military camp, causing power suspension to the camp.
The sources said two other rockets fell near tehsil building of the political administration but, according to officials, did not cause any human or material loss.Similarly, four rockets were fired at the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) fort Sarakanda near Angoor Adda. The sources said two rockets fell on the helipad while two others landed near Kutchery building.
They said the fort was occupied by the FC and Pakistan army troops. Also, suspected militants opened fire on military post near Khamrang and injured a soldier of Punjab Regiment Centre (PRC), Asad.
No militant group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack on military installations. Confirming the incident, a senior official of the political administration based in Wana, regional headquarters of South Waziristan Agency, said they were investigating rockets attack on military installations. Meanwhile, the president of the Niamatkhel Peace Committee, Turkistan Bhittani survived yet another life attempt near FR Jandola, a town called the gateway of militancy-hit South Waziristan Agency.
Witnesses said unidentified persons attacked his car with a remote-controlled bomb at Karai village, Jandola. The bomb was apparently planted to target the pro-government tribal elder. It slightly damaged his vehicle while he was on his way to military camp in Manzai area.
