Thats awful. These kind of punishments are still allowed at many institutes of Pakistan. except few eg. Becon House School, Lahore Grammer, Aitchsen College, Al Shufat etc etc.

It is legal in many institutions as an excuse for maintaining dicipline.

Slapping, beating in college age is disgusting. After age 8 or so, its not cool anymore. I think in most western countries corporal punishment in schools is illegal. Once I hit my elder sister in front of my bade mamoojan when my parents werent around. He socked my back so hard it nearly took the air out of me. But the shock was even more, as until then I had thought only parents and teachers can beat us. It worked, I never hit my sister again.

I personally never heard of beating in college. In my 4 years in college i saw only once a teacher got off his seat and walked out of class and grabbed a guy in hallway and beat the hell out him with his "Kheri" or otherwise known as kohati chappal. This guy was screaming like a roaster in right next to class room window.

Now the guy took it cause it was his fault and the teacher was an honest teacher. perhaps one of very few who would teach in the college. If it would have someone else, it would have different story.

Any way in school this is all ok (as long as its in decent boundary) but in college teachers are not only risking their life, respect and self-respect of the student.

Reminds me of one time when i was slapped by someone for a misunderstanding, i didnt hit back coz he was of my father's age with white hair and i thot that by slapping back an old man wouldnt make me feel any better.

Teachers shouldn't be beating up pupils like this especially when the pupils are adults! Even though i feel corporal punishment works i do not let this cloud me into think it should be used in classes in which the pupils are age 10+. Corporal punishment in my opinion works well and works best at the younger age group, older then that and it becomes counter-productive. I think corporal punishment should not be used in classes where the pupils are aged over 10. Using a system of corporal punishment throughout the education system only makes the system inefficient and leads to the pupils having their concentration shifted away by the pressure of being brutally beaten.

In countries like Pakistan capital punishment for older pupils should be scrapped since it is deeply embarrasing and causes problems for the learning of pupils. Instead in medium/upper schools detentions and other non-physical punishments should be issued, this has a variety of benefits including extra study time. Look at the time wasted by beating a pupil into submission when you can give them a detention by simply signing a form, both yield a similar affect (i.e. stop pupil behaving badly) one is oppresive and time consuming; the other is humane, efficient and leads to extra sutdy (therefore better grades). You can make your mind up from there as to which is the better system for medium/upper school pupils?

come on man. we used to get hit and by the time we used to reach the bench, we would be smiling. Hell i couldnt remember being embarrassed. hahaahhaha. Hell once this one friend of mine got hit in hallway and then he walked in the class room and thinking that he is not being watched by teacher, he started dancing. and then a UFO hit his back (teacher's sandal). hehehehehehehehehehehe

he sat quietly than, and one of us returned teachers sandal and came back and closed class door. and then we all started to dance in his face. holy crap man that was hilarious.

Living in England pretty much all my life i have rarely been in a system where corporal punishment is pressent. Though there was the one month when i went to a semi-literate woman to learn Quran when i was about 7 years old and she used to beat the living $hit out of people seriously dude. She was very innovative in her methods of inflicting pain here are just a few: The knuckle punch on the forehead (with a metal ring on her finger"), the bamboo stick which was very long and she put on the floor next to the Quran's and when smacked in one's face lead to maximum surprise, also the good old slap, don't forget the fish slap (double slap) too that gained her an infamous reputation. There was once a pupil called Usman and he got the $hit beat out of him so bad he lost like 4 teeth and now we call him Usman no cheeks lolz. In one tooth fairy visiting from the thug the tooth with all its blood fell onto someone's Quran according to my cousin. The funniest thing about her is that when she likes pupils while eating her banana she would bite the top off and offer it which i thought was gross and so when she offered it to me i was like "shukreya aunty leykin mujhe bukh nai hai" and then she was like nice kid and offered it to me again and then she got real pi$$ed off cause i wouldn't accept so she decided to find me when im not concentrating and try and punish me lol.

I stayed there for just under a month at age 7 in my tenure i got two slaps, a bambo smack and that was about it, also many banana offerings which i declined at great peril.

We're supposed to be muslims and the religion prohibits slapping on the face....oh well there are the talibs amongst us who slay our people so slapping shouldn't count for an offence in these times

you getting ti wrong. There is nothing in Islam whichh says that you can slap your wife on the face and if you belive it your wrong. As far as i came accross this stuff it only says you can tap her on the shoulder etc and there is nothing about slaps or other things

airomix, I'm not guessing here, I've read and heard from scholars that you CANNOT slap your wife or kids or other people in your ri3aya on the face. In fact you can't even slap someone in a brawl. Slaps on the face are humiliating and could never be used. You can spank on the logs or arms though, but even that under the restriction that you can't scratch the surface of the skin or cause a blue spot.

Yaar,Islam doesnt allow that,hadeeth is,

"How does anyone of you beat his wife as he beats the stallion camel and then embrace (sleep with) her?”

There are many more also about not slapping on face,not abandoning her in anger,clothing her,feeding her etc.

Same thing happened at Islamabad campus of Preston Institute when a lecturer was serious injured and maimed by a student he had "interfaced" with, apparently the angered student ran over him and he tried to finish the job by reversing over the man, before students pulled him out and gave him a well deserved "Phanti" needless to say his uber wealthy and shall i say connected parents shussed the situation and he fled to the UAE.

Three months later a lecturer was shot at convocation ceremony at Marriott Islamabad whilst trying to pacify a fight! Some of these brats need to learn some respect!

Oh ho; whats wrong with the teacher? what does he think of himself? If it was in my class; I would have fixed him neatly outside and make sure he will think twice before doing such things again.

The guy who captured the video does have some intentions to do something bad to this teacher; else he wouldn't have tried exploring this to others; maybe he wants some one else to teach the teacher how does he feel when he gets the same treatment

yeah and if you are in pakistan and your parents are half descent people, regardless of your problem, they will beat the sh|t out of you and then hand you over to the teacher and tell him to do whatever he want.
Trust me it happens. Parents will bring their kids who would insult the teacher back to school and beat the sh|t out of their kids in front of everyone.
A saying parents like to use often which is "bones are ours and meat is yours." Meaning that teacher has his way as long as the kid can come back home on his own feet.

and by the way the kid may have made the video just to show outside and chuckle about it and nothing more.
