A contingent of cadets from the Pakistan Naval Academy (PNA) assumed ceremonial guard duties on Thursday morning at the Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum to mark the Independence Day of the country.

Commandant Pakistan Naval Academy Captain Muhammad Zubair Shafique was the chief guest at the change of command ceremony, and also laid floral wreath at the Quaid’s grave, offering Fateha for the departed soul of the founder of the nation.

Representatives of the three armed services also laid Inter-Services floral wreaths at the mausoleum and offered Fateha.

Earlier, Independence Day commenced with a 12-gun salute by the armed forces. Thanks giving prayers were offered in all mosques of the armed forces units after Namaz-e-Fajr.

A national flag hoisting ceremony was also held at the headquarters of Southern Air Command of the Pakistan Air Force to celebrate Independence Day.

Air Vice-Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Air Officer Commanding Southern Air Command of the PAF, hoisted the national flag in synchronisation with the flag hoisting by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yousuf Raza Gilani, in Islamabad.
