this is my first new post in here.first by english post too .I am in beijing,a Chinese.
Intro the history about Chinese anti ship missile
In Oct 1956,the forst office was builded,it was called as 5th academe of Chinese DOD .
In Feb 1959, the < Soviet provided to China with the type 544 ,type 542 anti ship missiles and type 1060 sub-to-sueface missile > accord was visaed. Soviet provided the type 544 and type 542 anti ship missiles.
1959-1960,the 542 and 544 missile spare parts arrive China in succession
The type 542 is called as KC-1 in soviet,NATO call as AC-1
The type 544 is called as P-15 in soviet,NATO call as SS-N-2
Apr 1960, 1st subsection academe of 5th academe of Chinese DOD is the entire distribution design department,started to mapping the type 544, and redesigned the type 544 missile baseed the mapping,becouse Soviet did not give all the drawing and technical info,only some. Chinese had to redrawing tand redesign
The first copy version of 544 was called shangyou-1 or SY-1
1965 ,The 3th subsection acadene of the 5th academe of Chinese DOD assumed the coast-to-ship missile designing. Their precept was increased the rang of type Sy-1 missile, the type called as Haiying-1,or HY-1.
1968, the Central Military Commission decided changing the HY-1 as the project 051 destoryer missile weapon.

After hy-1 as ship to ship weapon, 320 factory continu improved and then produceed it .
The 3th subsection acadene of the 5th academe of Chinese DOD stated designed the project HY-2.
Before the hy-1 used as ship to ship ,some they have equiped plan as coast to ship weapon.
So ,two kiand of the missile was produced by 320,sy-1 and hy-1.
The max rang of hy-1 is 70km,sy-1 is 40km, the new hy-2 by 3th subsection academe is 100km
Sy-1 was approved product in 1967,
Hy-1 was approved product in 1972,and equipmrent as coast to ship weapon in 1972,as ship to ship weapon in 1983
Hy-2 was aooroved product in 1972,equipment in 1980
The hy-1 was earlyer designed than hy-2,but was drop behand the hy-2. becouse the 320 factory was more be devode technology than 3th subsection acadene in that age.

From 1956 -1960,it is the age that China strive to got the anti ship missile technology.
From 1960-1983, China developed firt generation anti ship missile and equiped PLAN
Sy-1,hy-1,hy-2 all base the p-15 of svoiet.sy-1 is small in figuration ,hy-1 is biger than sy-1 in figuration,hy-2 have biggest figuration .
The max rang :
Sy-1-------40km
Hy-1-------70km
Hy-2-------110km
Base the info of 320 factory and 3th subsection academe, in the first idea about the designe’sr only work was increating the figuration ,stuff more fuel,so that created max rang,and as sooner as possible to funding PLAN combat ability.but designer fall cross difficulty yet.
The fuze was first issue. In the first ,fuze was fallibility,so that project 051 destoryer no missile from 1970 until 1983,except test. When the lunching test in may 1980,051 destoryer did not carried combat missile , HY-1 was disassembed the fuze and fuel , apated left anther in project 051 destoryer., only when combat readiness ,the fuze and fuel will be assum into missile

Three kind of the missiles is differ with longth, but has same winspan,and same caliber.
The sy-1 longth is 6.4m,hy-1 is 6.6m hy-2 is 7.48m. by this token that the chinese idea of developing anti ship missile in that age was increated the fuel tank so that increat the max rang .
According to the strongpoint of Central Military Commission, the coast to ship missile must has max rang that overpass the Bohai golf. The Bohai golf lie the Tianjin offshore, here was the Baihe river’s entrance , the river through the Capital of China only 200km and navigable until the 1980’s. Europe thepowers many times inbreaking china was from here to Beijing in 19th centurey ,so the pilot of new China was every afraid here wether was safety. If the regime did not staedy , but be refoulemented from capital , the CP would lose the power. In the 1950-1960’s the case may be break.
Eguip the important coast with the best weapon, was the original intention of designed hy-2 .
Chinese designer’s resolvent way was increased the missile’s body longth to add the fuel tank longth . The longth increased was symmetrical about the wing. Hy-1 add 20cm than the sy-1, hy-2 add 108cm than sy-1 .all the increased longth of body for the fuel tank .
Antoher issue in project hy-2 was had no guide radar.
The guide radar of anti ship missile was used as indicate the target ,afford the target’s element for the direction, after get target’s element,direction will account the firing data for missile.
Then,China only had the guide radar of 544 missile,it max rang was 70km,can be used by hy-1 ,but hy-2 max rang is up 100km,so must redesign the new radar rang up 110km.
The guide radar of hy-2 come from gun aim radar, enlarge the reflecting surface,increased the beam power,, etc. the project 331 radar started designing in 1969 ,it was finished in 1978,ten years.

Another difficut tache was the radar seeker of 544 missile. Befort 1960, soviet did not handed whole informtion to china , when soviet abolished the coopration with china, the seeker technology was opening.
The resolvent was disassemblied type 544 missile that have handed, then mapping it. It was fortunate, the seeker was made with discrete part, enginners could saw straight the circuit. Valued missile was disassembilied, crowd enginners mapping it, though they did not had any experience.
The radar seeker of type 544 worked by conical scanning, the way easy be jamed. Though the 1973 war has appeared deed, but chinese did no action becouse china has no technology of the conical scanning yet , researching had to went on .
In 1970 ,The monopluse radar seeker designning started, it was opreated from HY or SY series. It was finished in 1976 but not equipment PLAN until 1985 with HY-2B .the monopluse radar seeker is called as type DM650, nanage conical scanning is the type LM2.
The aerodynamics shape of P-15 missile is base combat ballistical from artitulde 400m swoop into target. So it is routine position like a plane. But it had issue when low artituled. The air bed effect wil keep the missile on the low artituled when the missile level fly, any attemp changing artituled will be infructuous. China brought uo against the issue when designing the low artituled version of HY-2.
At the level fly artitude under 30m ,changing was every difficutly,the missile will over the targer. Beaming is a resolvent, but it will be more difficut reaim at the target take the heft 2998kg body in 5000-6000m . The self guide swooping was happened in the only rang 5000-6000m.

Finally, enginners keep the level fly artitude over 30m, and dodder the wing in last 6000m ,so that break the airbad, then start swooping to the targert.. the technology was used at sy-1,hy-1,hy-2. the ballistic artitude of the P-15 or type 544 is 100-300m, when the missile and the targert distance are in 6000m, the missile start swooping to the targert until hit it.
Depressing the level fly artitude will be in favor of breaking through the anti air system of fleet. But need not keep all ballitic was low artitude , for it is fueling. So chinese enginners planed the tow phases. The low artitude must be fit for the fly no aiebed ,radar seeker keep the intercepet rang, the targert intercepet is difficult and short.
At last ,enginner confirmed the level fly keeping 30m .this project are called the chinese “Jianggaodan”, mean the depressed artitude missle. All the kind missile , sy series ,hy series were all improved by depressing artitude technology.
Three kindes of the missile have same radar saaker in nonage, it is LM2, work in conical scanning.after the monoplus seeker was finished in 1985, all nonage missiles weae replaced with DM650.DM mean the chinese “DanMaichong” monoplus .the nonage monoplus and depressed version is called HY-2G, the G is the first edh of chinese “Gaijin”, meanes improved.After missiles are depressed level fly artitued .
In 1963, the Xuesen Qian pointed China need had the antijamming missile. He did not pointed concertion way . the 3th subsection academe play the infrared seeker for the sy serise an hy series. 1974 the infrared seeker was finished ,but no equipmented missiel until 1974.
Though infrared seeker has tested ,but the missile started designned in 1970 .
The infrared seeker first fit in the missile was 1974 in tianjin, the HY-2A equipment the infrared seeker was finish in 1980.
PLAN need the attacking surface targert ability. This idea come from Pakistan. In 1972 war, the india missle boat raided the Pakisten ‘s port using P-15.
I saw the news film too , smoking, conflagration, and the tank breaking down .the P-15 only attack the big metal echo targert, becouse it seeker is radar, but more targerts is the nonmetal , so need other seeker. PLAN choosed the infrared seeker and tv seeker in those year
The tv seeker version was called HY-2C.

Very good information. My father told me that india targeted our fuel dumps e.t.c in 1971 war with the help of bangladeshis who were in the pakistani navy but left before/during the war.
Will you produce any new type of anti-ship missile?

in China, any project of the subsonic seep anti ship missile have stoped, for improveing and redesigeing base the old type ars eough,the subsonic are in air to surface . only transsonic project are go on

Why did no choosed the type 542 missile in 1956.
The first kind of the anti ship missile that max rang over 100km is the type 542, the type 544 only has 40km rang. But PLAN choosed type 544 not type 542 yet,
Though the type 542 missile is the coast anti ship missile ,but someone suggest used it equipeted the navy combat vessels, and suggested the ton of vessel was 800 ton,in 1956.
Accoding the requierment of the Chinese NationalDefence in 1950s, the coast defence should extend over the max rang of the heavy calibre navygun ,it is about within 35km. The Chinese staff consider the rang would be developed in next 20 years with the missile. So the coast anti ship missile must choose the longer rang overrun the equiped missile navy minitype boat .
From 1950s to 1970s, Chinese defence aim at Taiwan, the navy all so.Taiwan navy have a great deal of combat boates and sub-hunteres ,its tonnage between 100ton to 500 ton. Taiwan navy all up got capitalship ,but can get the minitype combat boat in 1950s to 1970s. the missile was the derection in 1950s though when there were not any type missile boat of weatern ,but Chinese staff consided that navy missile threaten coast must appare in 1954. so,Chinese staff chooed the longer rang type 542 as the coast defence weapon. This tactic was samed with Soviet.
The type 544 as combat boat weapon, guide by coast radar at mountain and combat within the 20km, so that the coast defence ambit will extend to 40km to 60km, in favor of the 12 sea mile sea right.
Type 542 missile is guided with beam riding and INS,and avtive radar in last phase,use the turbojet engine ,need a another beam rading guide radar so that missile can direct the last phase then change into active radar guide. This is issue of longer rang,missile fly times is longer, the tardert may be run away from active radar 20 degree angel of view, must gave it a correcting in middle phase.
Not only All the equipementes of the type 542 system are too compliceted on a boat , but also the jet engine too .the Soviet navy expertes suggested abandoned the attempting .
at last ,Chinese staff recived the suggesting, abandoned the type 542 as the freedom designing new 800ton boat weapon, the 800ton new combat boat was abandomed too, in those years ,China did not have any ability of design the missile boat, folk imminetly holped holded the langrang missile equipment the vessels.

Some story about radar seeker in 1960s to 1970s
Nonage radar seeker of sy-1 or hy-1 ,hy-2 were all the LM-2, copyied from type 544 or P-15. it was conical scanning system.. the three kindes of missile have same caliber,same nose cone,same radar seeker cabin,same screw set.
the 3th subsection academe started designing the type 3KM-3G monopluse in May 1970 ,finished in Oct 1970. but the 3KM-3G was unstable until 1976 test yet.
Another type was the DM-650 was designed by 066 base IN 1973 .this is a erratic in China 1960s.Though called as base, in fact ,the 066 base is a combin corporation, design office, producing department, and proving ground .becouse the frontier combating with the Soviet in 1969, many defence industry were portaged into moutain area of Sichuan,shaxi,guizhou,etc,the 066 base was the one of they ,called as Xianfeng mechine factory too.
Oct 1977, the depress artitued version was tested, called as HY-2B,at one time the monoplus radar seeker were jointed test.
1979 new year’s Eve , the lunching test were succeeded,three HY-2test missile all striked the targert,oen was equipmented 3KM-3G,other were DM-650. at last ,the DM-650 win the bidding.HY-2test was approved as HY-2B .
The exprence are every valued,How to upgrade the missile.
Limited the shape of assembly, interface of mechine and electric standardization,expiated the cg,etc. in the process of the upgrade the radar seeker,nobody touch the air shape,and nobody touch the whole electric,only part. In those years, it is only ability of Chinese enginners
