Washington: America has agreed to give Pakistan Airforce 20 T-37 trainer aircrafts. According to the foreign office these trainer aircrafts will be handed over to Pakistan at the end of this year. According to the sources the request for the acquisition of these trainer aircrafts by the governmnet of Pakistan was under consideration by the Bush administration but due to the ongoing meeting between the Pakistani ambassador to the US and PAF officials with the US officials, the administration has agreed to the request of the government of Pakistan.

The only thing I can see is that the PAF has the infrastructure to maintain these old planes....and that they are coming for ' free '.
But PAF should look beyond that.......!!!!

Wow! The US agreed! I was expecting resistance from certain quarters! Jeez, it still took some consideration by the Bush administration.

That's why instead of opening a new thread, I merely posted the news earlier under the topic "PAF opens account"!

If something is coming free of cost....not bad ever. Although where is K-8s or these will be used as basic trainers and K-8 will be used as Advanced jet trainers?

This is just a stop gap measure, over the years the T-37 fleet has started to dwindle and by aquiring these aircrafts, the fleet would become more robust till it is replaced. As for the K-8s, it is precisely why the PAF opted for these T-37s. It is appearent that there are plans to upgrade K-8s and with any other new order, these would be built such configuration. Whether there are any talks of K-8s orders in the offing, is yet to be witnessed. But one thing is for certain, PAF is in the midst of structural change and as such, they need to carefully weigh in their options for trainers. Also, if the talks on a two seater Thunder doesn't materialize, then it would be obvious to conclude that K-8s would fulfill the role of lead in trainers and the T-37s would act as a basic trainer.

The twin engines and flying characteristics of the T-37B give student pilots the feel for handling the larger, faster T-38 Talon or T-1A Jayhawk later in the JSUPT. The instructor and student sit side by side for more effective training. The cockpit has dual controls, ejection seats and a clamshell-type canopy that can be jettisoned.
The T-37B has a hydraulically operated speed brake, tricycle landing gear and a steerable nose wheel. Six rubber-cell, interconnected fuel tanks in each wing feed the main tank in the fuselage. The T-37B has improved radio navigational equipment, UHF radio and redesigned instrument panels.
http://www.globalaircraft.org/planes/t-37_tweet.plI assume K 8s will be the advanced trainer. These will be basic jet trainers. However both are considered basic trainers, maybe PAF does not have enough money to buy more K 8s?

The K-8 fullfills advanced jet training where as the T-37 is a primary trainer and Mashaq serves as the basic flying trainer!

It is an excellent aircraft. Aged, but was in use with USAF until just very recently, so it cant be that bad. Most every US/European (NATO) fighter pilot, spent about 5 months in that plane during training. The biggest issue with it is the noise and old engines.
It can actually pull Gs faster than the F-16, although of course it cant sustain them.
